Well, apparently Maryland has been invaded by a fish.
Don't laugh. This fish is, officially, one bad motherfucker.
Wait, did I say *a* fish? No..there's more than one. But more on that later.
The name of this fish is this fish is the Northern Snakehead and it an eating machine. It's appetite is voracious (it can eat as many as 20 feeder goldfish, which are the larger ones) at a time. The female of the species can lay up to 100,000 eggs a year. The fish can live under the ice, and prefers breeding in the warm summers Maryland has.
The fish is big, too. One was caught at 26 inches long, which is bigger than the 18-incher caught and released back in May. The same angler reported hooking a fish just like the one he caught, only bigger. He said it was about the size of a golf bag.
These fish can grow up to three feet long. (GULP!)
Apparently Maryland is like Heaven for this fish.
There is apparently a breeding pair in this pond nearby. The pond doesn't have access to other bodies of water, so this shouldn't be such a huge concern. Catch the fish in time. It's not going anywhere, right?
Wrong.
Didn't I say this fish was a bad motherfucker? It has a lung and fins which allow it to move on dry land. It can live out of the water for up to three whole days.
Yikes.
This damn thing can migrate, regardless of if there's water or not.
If they don't get this thing caught, there are a lot of little fishes, and other species that depend on them, in a whole lot of trouble. There is a reward program right now. Anglers are being offered a cash reward for any fish they bring in, dead or alive. And you can't simply kill the fish by leaving it in your boat. You have to bleed it out, or behead it, or beat it to death with an oar.
Great. Thanks China.
We may have to re-task some special forces guys, or maybe just Quint, to catch this damned thing...well..things.
