Rude people suck..

I just opened my pm files. One woman that responded back to me was just plain rude. There always has to be at least one in every barrel. Even people who don't agree with me on the board show basic manners. This is a forum to discuss the BSDM lifestyle, not to be mean to people.

That may be so, but isn't much different than my nice, benevolent threads on courtesy on the forums.

I really think that to be part of any community centered around BDSM, there needs to be a certain amount of tolerance and openess to other's choices and yes, their mode of communicating.

Good manners reaps good conversations.

and bestalities.. after months..
well I started to talk about my electric racket....
told him I'd like to have my way with it with him....
he wrote back telling me that I sounded like "one of those bdsm freaks" and my my lots more stuff..
compared me to someone on the general board (hanns)
he said he was my father LMAO oookk that I was just as bad as him.
I responded that he would be asking for more..
he never wrote back.....

for months I tried to get rid of him..
didnt think It would be that easy..
havent heard from him in a few months now.
there are some great people on lit.. but some sucky ones to..
but that goes for anywhere you go.
pick a town. there is bound to be atleast ONE sucky person in it.

Perhaps she also thought your public pronoucements were rude, and considered you a bad apple. She may have felt that PMing you was kinder than saying it on the public board, and thought you were being mean and was responding in kind. There's always at least two sides to a story, although I'm sure receiving a mean PM does not feel good. Sometimes voicing unpopular opinions means people will disagree with you, and in a variety of ways. If you don't like how she responded to you and feel it was unwarranted, why don't you ignore her? If you feel you may have played a part, why don't you discuss it with her?

Thoughts on netiquette

I like people, as a rule.

There are individuals who I don't like.

However, when it comes to any on line communication, it is too easy to misread the tone of someone's words. It is always better to ask, politely, "what did you mean by that?" as opposed to ranting. Of course, if what was meant really pisses you off, yes, a direct pm or something else, private and off the boards is considerate of those who don't want to read a flame war.

Of course, I may be way off base here as I am accused of being too nice and too wishy washy and too benevolent!

Rudeness and basic manners are relative to culture and community to a degree. So, if you step into a new space and people seem offended and even mean in some cases, who's wrong and/or rude can become a pretty subjective value.

Sometimes, I post in a certain tone just for reaction an to pick things up. Well, I usually do that sort of thing on the GB, but used to do it in my pre mod days here.
