Rude-ish?

I don't know if the fiance is very unaware of his many charms or if we've just been engaged too long but I have the sweetest story.

He'd been dealing with someone from another department trying to sort out a tricky problem with a couple of the students. When she'd gone back to her office he wandered into the flat and said bemusedly,

Fiance: "That was odd."

Me: "What was?"

Fiance: "Well she was really nice and friendly and I thought 'good,' cos it makes working with her easier, and means she approves of the measures I've been taking, but when I told her I couldn't be around tomorrow she went all chilly. Should I have stayed in? It's not like I can *do* anything, and I told her my fiancee would be in so she could get the key from you."

Me: "How old was this woman?"

Fiance: "About my age, why?"

Me: "And she only went funny after you mentioned a fiancee...?"

Fiance (with dawning look of realisation and a rapidly spreading blush): "Ooohhhh..."

Flav darlin next time just mumble thank you and look away quickly. I to have a problem dealing with compliments of any sort but I found it easier to say thank you than to ignore it. It wont be flirty or anything to answer back a little and underneath you can always grin like a maniac even not knowing what to do with it.

At least you didnt have the unknown lady who walked up to me on the sidewalk in cincinnati, stuck her hand in my hair stroking it and telling me she thought it was beautiful. I damn near had a heart attack! If the compliments come with attached hands to the body then you have a very real right to get rude! Or at least say 'thank you and please remove the hand'. Verbal ones just need a nod and smile or just a mumbled thank you.

But the tip was nice as well I bet.
