The colours of the rainbow are remembered by schoolkids as

Richard Of York Gave Battle In Vain

What other ones are there ?

The only one I know is:

Randy Old Yorrick Got Buggered in Venice

Um, I just learned ROY-G-BIV and that was enough to remember the colors. No memory jogger phrase to go with it.

Yep, what Cheyenne said.

D'accord.

They're called mnemonics, and there are lots of them.

For the ascending musical tones on the treble clef: Every Good Boy Does Fine.

Stellar classification, hot to cold: Oh Be A Fine Girl, Kiss Me Right Now.

The bones of the wrist: Never Lower Tillie's Pants; Mamma Might Come Home. (Navicular, lunate, triangular, pisiform, multangular greater, multangular lesser, capitate & hamate.)

The digital expansion of pi: How I want a drink, alcoholic of course, after the heavy chapters involving quantum mechanics. (Lots of other mnemonics for this.)

Resistor color coding: Bad boys rape our young girls, but Violet gives willingly.

Great Lakes — Sally Made Harry Eat Onions

Planets — My Very Educated Mother Just Served Us Nine Pizzas

Puzzling. DannyBoyUK gives us one rainbow-color mnemonic, then offers another one as "the only one I know". Now he offers a third.

It's as if he's copying these from some uncredited source.

My first two were the ones I knew at school

This morning's one was in my email this morning

This one is from a Southampton University website:

Read Over Your Geography Book In Vacation

BIDMAS for the precedence of arithmetic operators.

Brackets
Indicies
Division
Multiplication
Addition
Subtraction

Actually, I realise the above about arithmetic is not what you're looking for, it's only a mnemonic.

I'll try again for arithmetic precedence:

Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally

Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction

For trigonometry:

The Old Arab Carried A Heavy Sack Of Hay

Tan = Opp/Adj

Cos = Adj/Hyp

Sin = Opp/Hyp

Okee here's one from Biology:

Kids Play Catch Over Farmer Green's Shed

Kingdom
Phylum
Class
Order
Family
Genus
Species.

SOHCAHTOA (a fictional place) is how we were taught that one

But that does not mean that every person who knows the colours of the rainbow is gay.......

,,,,,,,or does it ?

yeah my biology teacher taught that one as "king phill came over for great sex"

no one ever forgot it.

Also in physics, there were three laws about pressure - one was the Law of Pressures, one was Boyles Law, fuck knows what the other one was - but all involved the relationship between volume, temperature and a couple of other things

<s>

I created my own very long mnemonic which ended in something about ".......vishnus in the play-parks of Tottenham"

When it came to my exam, I had a complete mental block and couldn't remember what religion the dudes were, whether they were playing or killing* or what part of London they were doing it in !

*the k makes me think that one of the Laws was Kelvins Law - but what the heck ! In 15 years as a lawyer, the issue has not come up a single time in any of my trials !
