I just opened my snail mail and experienced an author's second favorite professional moment.

1) I was super excited the first time I saw one of my titles on the shelf in a national chain bookstore. They even had three copies! I have since seen all of my titles in book stores around the world.

2) My second title did very well and paid one royalty beyond the advance. Then I signed a contract for my third book, and the terms stipulated that royalties from all titles are used to repay all advances. As a result, titles that sell well repay the advances for titles that don't. As soon as I signed for the third book, the royalty checks for the second book stopped coming. Well, happy day! My second book has done so well that it payed off every advance I have ever received. Today, I got my second ever royalty check!
