Route 66 was the highway of dreams....
From Santa Monica to Chicago, with stops in Barstow, Flagstaff, Albuquerque, Tulsa and Saint Louis and a hundred places in between...
This is an easy story, as easy as opening the door, turning the key, switching on the radio and away we go...
It's High Summer of 1957, Eisenhauer is President but Elvis is the King.
We have a 56 Caddy white as a cumulous cloud, five grand in cash and the old highway lives again.
Join us!
This tale begins with two players, SexyChele and myself. As the road unwinds and the tale continues we may ask for others to join in this trip down memory lane.
My character is Oshea, his real name is something he's told no one in six years.
Just look at him... a handsome young man all of twenty two years old...he's tried a thousand things and finished none of them.
The inheritance fell on him out of the blue just when he was thinking that he'd better find a steady job. The car is a year old but Uncle Fred never drove it, still smells like a showroom special.
And there's the letter...the letter in the glove box...
"In accordance with your Uncle's wishes you must appear in the City of Chicago in the offices of Phister, Phister, Monk and Lord on or before the 12th day of July, 1957 to claim the remainder of your inheritance, etc, etc..."
He'd left the Windy City six years ago without a thought of ever going back, but the Caddy, the five thousand in travel money and the thought of a whole lot more was incentive enough to return.
His girl is waiting for him at the end of the pier in Santa Monica. If we take a sea gulls view we can see her there, leaning on the weathered rail and staring out at the sunset Pacific. We can also pick Oshea out of the crowd... that's him striding confidently towards her now.
James Dean you say!
Well yes there is a definate resemblance.
