RosieVelvet: A Statement

From what I have seen in a number of threads, you are a good fit here and a great addition to the mob. So kick back and have fun. That is what most of us try to do here. Ignore the idiots. It is their loss.

For the most part this is what I have found. I have been very agreeably surprised by the quality of the company, male and female alike. I'm not going anywhere, just taking in a much needed life lesson. Even at my age!

The presumptiveness of assholes is unendingly surprising.

I shouldn't really be surprised, even if some of them have pretensions to intellect most are as thick as three-day-old porridge. They are programmed to respond to basic keywords so in a sentence like "you haven't a clue what a woman wants you stupid cunt" they only see "woman" and "cunt" but disregard the rest of the sentence.

Am I correct in assuming that you will be submitting stories in BDSM? If so I can give you a couple of names and emails of guys who would like you to punish them. lol. But if you do submit stories please make your paragraphs shorter. My mind can’t cope with more than a couple of dozen or three words at any one time. I don’t understand why this should be and neither does my therapist!

I'm a big Henry James fan, you know! Long complex Jamesean sentences may well be a habit I need to tone down here, I admit.

A fun exercise would be to rewrite a down and dirty erotic scene in Jamesian prose (Jamesean or Jamesian?). I like James as well although I know of no other writer that so completely beats down, flogs, and ignores the common advice to writers that you should "show, not tell."

Fear not. 😇They hit on me, too, but I only dress like a woman. I can only imagine what it’s like for the real women on this site. 🌹Kant

You're a real woman to me while you're on here, Kant, if that's who you want to be.

R

Relax, Rosie. Pull up a comfie rock, pour yourself something comforting and be welcome

Thank you Penny!

Every newb gets hit on. Depending on tone, either say no politely or just block (I’ve done both). On top of that, everybody gets spammed. Delete and ignore.

Oh, I was prepared for the lewd suggestions and demands out of the blue. I was less ready for the minging bawbag who pretends to be civilised until its suddenly all about the needs of his prick. Surely he could sort that out himself. I thought that's what Kleenices were for.

Sometimes I set my creative writing students the task of rewriting a passage of Raymond Chandler in the style of PG Wodehouse or Jane Austen. These are some of the most successful exercises ever.

I'll bet. That must be a lot of fun to read. I love Jane Austen.

The sessions where students read out their pastiches always end in hyterical laughter.

I'm also an Austen fan (who isn;t?) although I can never understand why it's Pride and Prejudice that grabs the public imagination rather than the masterful Emma, which is my personal favourite.

And I love Wodehouse and Chandler too.

Pride and Prejudice is irresistible. Darcy is more dashing than Mr. Knightly. It's easy to see why P&P would be better liked than Emma. But Emma is my favorite, as well. She's the most interesting of Austen's heroines.

This has been an interesting thread. I'm seeing a window into a side of this site I don't see. I may try adopting a female synonym to get a peek. I don't really want to get dick pics, though.

LOL. Sorry, even if I'm taking a weekend sabbataical, I had to peek and that one had me rotflmao, Simon. Do it, how about "Simone Kismet". Set it up, give your altar ego a nice female pic and just wait.

My profile says, among other things, "Love to get feedback on my stories and email about writing in general. I don't chat online, I don't do cybersex, I don't share photos. Any requests like that just get deleted, so don't waste your time."

I don't think the guys that send the cybersex request actually read the profiles. I haven't had any photos since early on. They were good tho, I rolled around laughing. I still get the odd cybersex request, but they're few and far between now. It's just one of those things that happens when you first sign up as a female or with a female userid on a site like this.

As KeithD and a couple of others said, stripping all the pretension away, it's a porn site, and if you're a female (or posing as a female, it doesn't matter which) on a porn site with a lot of guys who have one thing on their minds - coz there's one reason you come to a site like this and it's not to read Tolstoy is it? :D - and I've had a few from females as well as guys, let me say.

So I give them the benefit of the doubt and a polite reply. I have never had one single would-be person who has persisted beyond that. I have had a few who lured me in politely with an email exchange on writing and then crossed the boundaries. And I've had a very few that turned weird. Those get the single reply and I just delete the incoming from those email addresses after that.

Honestly, it never worried me right from the start. Doesn't now. Sex is an amazing driver, people will do and say things they would never normally do under it's pressure. I just view it as part of being on this site and I've made some very good email-buddies and there are a lot of readers who email me with questions and just plain nice feedback. The benefits far outweigh the very odd negative.

I have had one or two pm's from people I thought I "knew" on the AH that came close to crossing the boundaries, but I choose not to publicize that or who they are. They approached me privately, I responded in the same way and that was that. No big deal. There's always going to be someone, just as there is in real life, and I deal with both the same way. Politely and firmly and as long as it doesn't happen again, no biggie.

I don't see anything wrong with anyone trying it on. As long as they respect a "no", that is. And now, Simon, experiment. Sign up as Simone. Make a few flirty posts on the GB and baby, see what happens. :D
