I thought this tech article was pretty interesting and something that could launch a lot of stories, considering how ubiquitous this tech already is. So, not exactly a story idea but a starting point. For example, can the uploads from these devices be intercepted in real time by a neighbor or an ex? A famous actress who doesn't do nudity is recorded naked by a device in her home and now someone has the pictures/video, what happens next? A disgruntled employee leaks thousands of sensitive pics of people, who discovers your photos online? Like I said, lots of ideas from this one tech article, I think.

Near future
...somewhere deep on the dark web...

Want to watch your crush in their home?

For a small fee we may investigate the possibility.

Our botnets currently have access to 24,623,785,443 penetrated high definition cameras, 13,354,231 have been added during the last week. (We will need a facial photo or identity information to proceed).

...Proceed with the payment... ...back to the service provider...

Your request is successfully completed.

We found 17 candidate viewpoints. Including SeeMe(tm) video conferencing, VisioVacuum(tm) cleaner, AlwaysThere(tm) companion device robo dog, and -- you're lucky -- she already has the new BeautyEye(tm) smart mirror in her bathroom. It could also be possible (for an additional fee) to visualize the proximity sensor radar data from the handheld showerhead.

Excellent idea! Now I'm thinking of a story from the POV of someone who works for a company providing that service, too. Lots of possibilities with that one: cheating spouses, corporate espionage that takes a kinky turn, someone secretly hears a murder plan but can't go to the authorities about it, a reporter who is going to expose the service but then receives hours of video footage of herself and a warning to drop the story. Lots of ways to go with that idea.

There surely exist datasets to train AI to recognize and categorize nudity and sexual activity. Of course, with the credible goals to increase privacy by automatical censoring. One might think, there's more than enough porn around to populate those.

But a certain combination of stupidity and weird tendencies may manifest as particularly bad case of "not invented here" and a company of, as in our case robo vacuum cleaners (but not necessarily limited to, all sorts of companion devices or robotised appliances may substitute) decide to offer incentives for certain groups of their clients... to basically, randomly be nude at home. All dressed in language about research and such, with claims that no humans will see it, if only fully anonymized footage in exceptional cases (of course, how do you "fully anonymize" nudity, it's an oxymoron).

Some may suspect it's somewhat obfuscated sex work, but participate anyway for the incentives. Some may legit do it for the stated ideals. And really, who really cares if a vacuum cleaner see them in their own homes.

Where I'm going with this, no, I'm not entirely sure. But besides someone having fun annotating it all, and someone else enjoying purposefully made compilations, all in strict secrecy, of course...

...perhaps the resulting dataset then may be transferred, sold, be inherited or hacked, or otherwise come into hands of academic researchers in a mangled form that never mention those weren't random clients, and they may publish papers claiming home nudism is by far more popular than anyone thought, or some such.

And of course, there's fun to be had by the participants of the original "study".

If an AI is trained on porn, it won’t catch many rl forms of sexiness due to the unreality of the products. sure, a gagging blowjob in the nude with lots of spit would flag, but might someone nuzzling their partner quietly with their head in lap? Maybe not.
the opposite is true, too - a true therapeutic massage may well trigger such a system even if it’s not sex, as all the massages it’s digested ended up with screaming (simulated) orgasms. I just don’t see quite how to use this in a sexy story, tho.

A step further.

The occupants of the homes know and participate willingly. It all becomes a competition of sorts. Think of a cross between the various shows like Real Housewives and Big Brother coupled with The Stepford Wives concept. They go all out in appearance and erotic outfits, knowing that someone is watching, but not who, or how many. The goal is to get the most views in a period of time.

How do you complete for views if you have no idea is anyone watching?

But the program could have bonuses that either aren't explained at all or with language so incomprehensible it's wose. However, some of the participants discussing those between themselves start to believe there could be certain correlation with such behavior.

As with all social media, people will do things for attention, even if they seem embarrassing or otherwise private.

Razer’s $400 soundbar has a creepy camera to help emit surround sound
Always-on, shutter-free IR cameras make their way to PC audio.
Razer insists that the infrared camera, which exists in the front-center of the speaker, is all in the name of next-level virtual surround sound. Using head-tracking AI, the soundbar can tell where the user is and create a virtual soundscape with the listener as the center point. The beamforming technology comes from Audioscenic, which discussed the feature as research at CES 2017 and demoed it at CES 2022. The tech allows the soundscape to change while it tracks you as you move.

The next logical step for camera assistant audio would be automatic playlist adjustment depending on the mood in the room, and to that goal, it's ability to recognize certain activities will need be trained and tested in as close to real world situation as possible...

So, dear consumers, in order to help us upgrade quality of our audio system, please fill a log with your intimate activities and satisfaction with our music selection during those, yours and your partner(s), as we will try to take into account their listening history. And yes, there's no need to announce their presence, the inbuilt face recognition software is there exactly for that.

I like it. The idea of software reading the mood of a room is great, perfect for parties. You want the party to last intimate 1 a.m. but it's flagging at 11? The AI plays more dance music. Too boisterous, the AI chills the crowd with trance or trip hop. Of course, can subliminal messages be far behind? Soon, all experiences are mediated for us through AI. The Mixmaster bartender varies the strength of drinks based on how drunk a person is. A romantic dinner is enhanced by the release of aromas based on facial expressions and conversation. It's a wonderful world...until it isn't.
