From the "What makes a Mother/Son incest story hot?" thread... (I didn't want to hijack it.)

I wrote this a few years ago, it covers incest stories in general, not just mother and son, but a lot of what's in it applies to every 'pairing" in I/T

https://www.literotica.com/s/write-incest-like-a-mother-fucker

Its been opined that many readers of I-T stories are romantics at heart.

Some readers obviously like the "forbidden" nature of I-T (especially those 14 readers who are only there for the "Taboo").

But I think many are truly "romantic" souls who have been burned by the fact that so damned many people are assholes. I think (I hope) most people had loving (which is not to say sexual) relationships with their siblings and parents. Those are sort of Platonic (in both senses of the word) ideal prototypes for relationships. Then too many went out and got fucked (but not in the good way).

For me, my parents were always there and always looking after my best interest. It is the same with my biological sibling. A lot of my stories, published elsewhere and hopefully here soon, are sibling incest stories because I was lucky enough to have grown up with friends who were as close as biological siblings to me. In a very real emotional way they are my brothers and sisters.

It's just different when you have known someone "literally forever." We would, and through the years, we have done anything for one another. I've seen so many people have to "rent" love or acceptance. They get asked: "What can you do for me?" "What have you done for me lately." They get subtly told that they can't ask for what they want or they'll be seen as perverts.

I already know that all of my "brothers-by-other-mothers" are perverts. Have for decades, so it isn't a problem. Family already knows all about you and (hopefully) they love you anyway. Maybe even because you are a wierdo (we are all wierdos).

There was this group of us, I was one of two girls and there were maybe 11 guys. The other girl played the societaly acceptable role-- and she had many of the guys tripping all over her. I was just one of a group of five or sometimes six. It was like having four brothers, well except that I have fucked each one of them at some point in time... Unless of course it's a Literotica story, then it's EXACTLY like having four loving brothers.

Very thoughtful of you! Entirely unnecessary in my opinion, but truly thoughtful all the same.

Interesting theory! Whatever the reason, they do seem to like their romantic happy ending. In our weird and wonderful world there must be some like you've described where they're drawn to the incest theme somehow out of a sense of safety and acceptance within a "family" type relationship, just with the added bonus of sex.

Sentimental stories do well on Lit, and not just in I/T. I hesitate to call them "Romantic" to avoid confusion with the Romance novel formula.

I/T stories are mostly fantasies. You are free to conceive of the relationships any way you like. You don't need to depend on having siblings or long-time close friends, for instance. Most of my I/T stories have sentimental endings, and none of them are based on my real relationships.

The romantic angle is just an extension of the fantasy.

When people think taboo, they think just the sex. lusting after and bedding a family member, crossing the ultimate line etc...

But the taboo can also be emotional. Its taboo to love, in the romantic sense, that one person society tells you that you shouldn't love. Forbidden love, the ultimate 'star crossed lovers' scenario.

In my Siblings with benefits opus, the mother finds out her son and daughter(now in their late thirties) have been involved sexually and romantically to some degree since their late teens, upon discovering it, she was initially appalled.

Then she happened to be looking at some old photos and saw one she took of the two of them where they were smiling at each other, and she realized what she saw wasn't fondness between siblings, but a lovestruck young man smiling at the object of his affection

her comment to the daughter when she told her she knew was society might have rules, but love has no limits.

They eat that up, its no different than any other romance trope of two people who aren't supposed to be together.

As an aside, I had no idea that How To I wrote seven years ago would be so popular. Good to know I encourage the best in people. :D

The closest thing I've written to a romance in an incest story was a little bit of a love relationship between two women who were sexually involved with their sons. I don't think it really strayed into genre romance, though.

I had one stand-alone story ("Her Bodyguard") that was very nearly an outright Romance. Even the readers said it was. It isn't quite my most highly-rated I/T story. The stand-alone stories with higher ratings were also very sentimental -- especially at the end.

Romance as a genre is something I'd say I have an ambivalent relationship with. The sentimentality factor is an element in that.

There are 2 spectrums of Incest.

On one side, there's the story that's fun, sexy, and erotic. Something like the mom sitting on a son's lap, mom or son accidentaly taking a sex drug, or a mom motivating her son. These stories are usually 1-3 pages.

Then there's the romance section, which has a lonely mom who falls in love with her son. If you take out the incest, it works as a pure romance stories. These stories are usually 3+ pages with lots of build up.

Sometimes they cross over.

Both sides of the spectrum have their audience. Sometimes people like both. Personally, I'm in the first group. Incest romance does nothing for me. If you look at peoples profiles and what they favorite, it's usually a mix. But a lot of readers favor one side.

Romance has a powerful appeal to readers of incest stories. Don't ask me why, but it's undeniable.

Even in a shorter story, if you play up the romantic angle, your story will do better.

I think it's the idea of forbidden romance. Mom and Son are not supposed to be attracted to each other, but they are, and nothing can stop them from coming together. It's a very powerful idea for a story.

I'm not someone like 8letters or Reject reality who can pull up all these graphs and crazy detailed stats.

But I've been writing and reading here for 11 years and as others have said, there is an audience for both lusty and loving incest stories(same with every category really) but what I have noticed both in my stories, others I've read, and just looking at an authors page with their scores and stories is the romance stories score higher and with far better comments.

I think people come to lit expecting one handed reads, they're par for the course, but when a reader finds a story that delivers a lot more than sex they tend to be more appreciative.

I agree with what Lovecraft wrote, and I think there are two elements to it, with regard to how incest stories score.

One is that incest readers do, surprisingly, favor a romantic aspect to the incestuous relationship. It makes a difference.

The other is that some incest readers are weirdly squickish and picky, and I think they will penalize stories that stray outside their incestuous kink boundaries. I had a reader one-bomb one of my incest stories because Mom was a "whore."

The incest stories that score best tend to be on the longish side (over 6 pages) and emphasize the development of the relationship between the incestuous partners.

I agree that I/T readers like longer stories, and want to see the relationship develop.

On the other hand, my highest-scoring standalone starts years after the relationship began. There are a lot of factors in scoring, and the reader's preference for seeing the relationship develop doesn't overwhelm all others.
