I read them, however I call them two hour trash. Usually, because it takes about that long to read them. They're bubblegum candy, but ohhhh so much fun.

I don't allow myself to read more than one a week, and I read other books so I don't feel so guilty.

They're definitely one of my guilty pleasures.

I read them, usually on Saturday afternoons. They don't take much time, or much attention. So while I'm doing the laundry and in between cleaning the bathroom and the kitchen I can read a whole trashy romance.

Yes, I read them.

I used to hide my book covers because I thought people would make assumptions about me based on my reading material.

Then I grew up and figured out that if they did, I really didn't care. I get teased at work for always reading them. I don't care. I love 'em. The stories are articulate, well characterized and well plotted. They have a happy ending. What's not to like?

I noticed in one of the "annoying questions" threads, one of the questions was "what book are you currently reading?" At least 4 people mentioned a romance novel. 3 of them (myself included) were reading the new Nora Robert's book.

A lot of people think we read them for the sex parts, but honestly? Most of the women I know skim over those parts. Let's face it, there's only so many ways you can say "and then they fucked."

My reading consists of 95% romances. I read for the same reason I go to the movies and/or watch televison, to be entertained. If I want deep, I will go to church. If I want to be educated, I will go to school. And if I want to be depressed, I will watch the news on tv or read a newspaper.

My favorite part is the happy endings. SPEAKING of Nora Roberts I just got her next two books almost 6 months in advance to read and review.

I've been reading a lot of erotic romances, books with babies, and paranormals lately... erotic because their arousing more so.. babies cause I want one and now found out probably cant and paranormals because their different.

The first time i read a book, i usually skim over the sex scenes, i want the story. If it's a good sex scene, i'll go back and read it later, though. IMO Linda Howard writes the very best not-quite-sex scenes, they're better than the full sex scenes in some other books.

I read them.

I think they might be a bit harmful for me though. I start dreaming of sailors feeling me up with their rough, strong hands.

And, I don't have a heaving bosom to speak of, so that's sort of a let down.

:D

Ooo I just finished re-reading that Linda Howard one with the chick with the visions. Can't for the life of me remember the name, but I love that one!

Yah, she writes some decent sex scenes. And I'm not saying I *never* read them...

Actually, and only here could I admit this...

The sex scenes I find myself reading, rereading, bookmarking, photocopying and saving for later, etc are the ones where the heroine's had a bad (usually forced) experience with a previous lover. Examples....um....I think it's Hellion by Bertrice Small where her hubby kept ass-fucking her and she didn't know it (yeah, duh!) and one of Candace Camp's ...I want to say Impetuous? Scandelous? One of those, anyway the ex-husband used her as a fucktoy for all his friends. Ok, I'm sick and I admit that freely.

Nora Roberts's sex scenes, especially in the JD Robb books (ay chihuahua!) are usually really fucking good! Or is that really good fucking? Anyway...you get my point.

So...eversobeautiful...you are gonna share those promo copies, right? ;)

Linda Howard... visions.... either Dream Man or Now You See Her.

I've never understood why the bad guys (and girls) have the best sex. I've been reading romances for almost twenty years now and the books that are promo'd as "hot" today are lukewarm compared to some of the older books. I have some Brenda Joyce and Linda Lael Miller's that are about to fall apart. They must be bored with sex because their newer ones are completely blah.

One scene that really stuck with me was a forced "Spanish Inquisition" thing. The story was okay, the sex scenes were great and i can't remember anything else about the book.

Do you read romance books?
I'm not sure if some of the books I choose fall in that category. Is Diana Gabaldon's "Outlander" series considered part of the romance genre? That's about as close as I get to what I think of as "romance" books. When I was a kid, my mom accidently bought me some used Harold Robbins books at a flea market. Does he count?

I've never heard of any of the authors listed so far in the thread.

Uh, where's the all of the above vote? :D

I read them, mainly because I feel a craving to read about 3 times a day, and I read fast. That being said, I go through alot of books, and my local library does not have a large fiction section, so I'm somewhat forced to buy new books. However, the friends of the librarys 25 cent book rack contains PLENTY of romance novels, donated to the library, which would not be allowed on the shelves. So, it's reading on the cheap, and for 2 bucks, I can get about 3 days worth of reading material. I read alot of other books, but this keeps the sheer amount of money I spend on books down. 5 bucks a week gets me plenty of romance novels, that then get passed onto my friends, and I treat myself to two "real" books a week. Is it a bad thing that my two biggest weekly expenses that I consider neccissary luxuries are books and coffee?

I read romances. Historical romances. Anything set in the 18th century and before. Lords, Ladies, Knights, etc, I love them!!! :)

Yes I read them. But before & actually got into reading them, they gave me the heebee geebees. I mostly read Historicals set in England Lots of ones from the Regency era but I have been know to also pick up Sci-fi, vampire, time travel, & paranormal romances too. :D I do read other fictional books too.

A few of my favorite Romance authors are ...

Christina Feehan
Dara Joy
Maggie Shayne
Thea Devine

Yes I read them

& I was like Nora. In the begining I hid them. Now I just freely admit to reading my "girly books"
Nora Roberts is at the top of my list then
Sandra Brown
Johana Lindsey
Linda Howard
Joan Johnston
Elizabeth Lowell
Jane Anne Krentz
Linda Lael Miller
Jude Deveraux
and on, and on, and on...

It was Dream Man! Thanks!

Hrmm...can't remember reading one with a Spanish Inquisition-y theme (afterall, no one expects the Spanish Inquisition!).

I agree about the newer Brenda Joyce...I never got into Linda Lael Miller, though. Her writing style annoys me for some reason.

Ooo Dara Joy totally cracks me up, Arc de Rat!

Vampire, time travel and paranormal romances? Those sound interesting. Which authors write in those sub-genres?

I read them all day everyday.

I love them and feel no guilt what so ever about doing it.

I then take my books and sell them online, just so that I can buy more.
