The band, who played their first ever gig in London on July 12, 1962, were thought to be planning a world tour to mark the occasion, kicking off towards the end of the year.

But guitarist Keith said: "Basically, we're just not ready."

He did confirm that the band would go back into the studio this year and are likely to have original bassist Bill Wyman on board for the sessions.

Is waiting such a good idea? Clock's ticking.

Gotta be honest and give them credit where it's due. Fourty years later and they can still sell out any stadium in the world! ;)

50 years of Rolling Stones. I was in grade school, when they started. October 25, 1964 First appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show.

Strangely, Mick Jagger did not look much different in the 1970's, that he did in the 1960s.

Mick and Keith and company are closing in on 70.

Legends, to be sure, and deserved, but I'm just saying: it might not be the worst news if they didn't do a stadium tour.

They wouldn't have to do a stadium tour. Who does stadium tours anymore anyway
other than that asshole Bono?

Just heard Keith's apology to Mick. Kudos to the man.

I never much cared for the Stones' music all that much. Moments of brilliance, no doubt. Never saw them live. That might explain it somewhat. Still, it's like the Grand Canyon. I've never seen that either but it's kind of a big deal. The Stones, a great big ditch in the annals of rock-n-roll.

I love the Stones but I wouldn't go see them now. It would spoil my memories.

those that I have left

Back in my Army days I saw the Stones in Berlin in either '74 (most likely) or '75. It was in some arena (the Deutchlandhalle, perhaps) used for bicycle racing and the acoustics were horrible. I knew a lot of their songs, but 50 yards from the stage I had no clue what they were performing.
Billy Preston led off and was pretty cool.
Then I saw the Stones again about 10 years ago in Vegas, back when tickets were $300-$400 a pop and they packed the MGM Grand Garden, which seats about 16,000. The acoustics were better.
Question: Who was the guitarist before Ron Wood joined the band? I'm too lazy to Google.
