I have been gone for a short time and I have found that I cannot keep track of the cast of characters here in poetry world.

Please, if you will, check in on this thread-- if you are a poet, reader, troll, lurker, or just like to look at the pretty poet av's.... lets all check in.

Some possible information to include:

*What you hope to get out of your time at lit (please include level of critique you are looking for)

*What do you hope to contribute to the poetry community at literotica? What role do you see yourself playing here?

*How would you describe your writing?

*URL to your work at lit, personal website etc.

*List of some of your favorite poems/stories you have at Lit, in case anyone wants to get a taste of your work

Suggestions:

**Please keep it brief
........ think of it as a reference for newbies or us old folks with failing memories

**Please don't post off topic
......... unless you absolutely cannot help yourself

**If you don't post your own bio within 2 weeks, I will make one up for you without hesitation. :)

*** Note: this is not part of the Patriot Act. Also please do not include your political affiliation, your social security number or your mother's maiden name.

thanks!

Your thread title made me think of the Mouseketeer Roll Call. I wanted to shout out "Annette!" :D

What you hope to get out of your time at lit (please include level of critique you are looking for)

Ideas for poems, critique, and friendship. I like specific critique, and I don't mind being told you think my poem sucks, but try to explain why.

What do you hope to contribute to the poetry community at literotica? What role do you see yourself playing here?

I will try to help anyone who asks for an edit or opinion, but as I said in the other thread I'm nice but I don't sugar coat things, so if that's what someone wants I may not be the best person to ask. I know a lot about poetry because I have a degree in literature and I read all the time, so I share what I find helpful to my own growth as a writer. I just try to put back into it what I get out of it as described in my answer to your first question.

How would you describe your writing?
A combination of memory and sensual imagery. I want the reader to experience through their senses what I'm trying to say in a poem. If I can make you feel, hear, and taste the images as well as see them, I feel like I got it right. I have lots of influences but Neruda, Yeats, and an Iranian poet named Forough Farrokhzad are probably the main ones.

Here's my Lit page:

Angeline

Here's a few of my poems to get a taste of the way I write

Annointed
Dear Ghosts (Illustrated)
Lavender Trumpet
Seeker's Sesto
The Snow Queen

I also have poems published at Exquisite Corpse, Agnieszka's Dowry and other places. Oh and I have three poems being published in the next issue of Erosha. They should be online in a week or two.

I'm working on a website but um verrrrrry slooooowly.

:D

Great thread Swirly.

PS This *was* brief...for me.

Hopefully, I'll be able to continue as one of the moderators, and I'll be able to continue offering comments on poetry and submitting my own writing.

*How would you describe your writing?
Odd at times. lol I don't write as much erotica as I thought I would. I do enjoy writing my southern poetry. Some of my poetry is inspired by my children. I guess that odd sums most of it up.

I recently started a web site which I hope will exhibit more work of others that might not get recognized in more conventional sites.

I deleted all my stuff at lit :( but my favorites are at mannequin envy anyway

I am so psyched that people are checking in here! I read through them all tonight, what a wonderfully diverse group of writers we are!

*What you hope to get out of your time at lit:
I get to read work of varying styles (and quality :( ) and I have made contact with other writers whose "eye & ear" I respect. I can/have ask/ed some of them for commentary on work in progress.

*What do you hope to contribute to the poetry community at Literotica?
I display examples of my current writing, and I comment on posted poems. I am also willing to comment on or edit works in progress

*How would you describe your writing?
At the moment I am into minimalism of a certain kind.
In particular, I like to take humor or an unusual thought (some of which are mine) and reduce them to as few words as I can. I find this a very useful exercise - However, I may often use the 5-7-5 syllable form of "English" Haiku since I like a balanced structure if I want my thoughts to be considered as poetry.

There aren't that many so that I want to pick and choose. :)
Reltne Submissions

I do understand that my work is not popular among Lit. readers. I have one poem with over 1800 reads, but only 3 votes and 2 comments. I have yet to have a poem get 10 votes.

ps: Re that: Senna Jawa was right. How close to the beginning of the list your work is definitely makes a difference.

oh Anna, you were KIDDING about doing bios of p[eople who dont post, thats mean!! :p

critique: I want some, rarely get it, am I invisible or something? :) if you tell me my stuff is off meter, or has the same word too often, I will not shrink up and die, I know I try to be sweet, but hell, Im a human too :rose:

where am I going?: nowhere right now, my inspiration hibernates in winter time

why am I here?: you poets are funny, interesting, and amazingly talented, quirky, kind and some of ya'll have a sinister side. I like sinister poetry, really I do

my stuff: oh, I had hubby probs a while back and I removed all my stories and about 80 poems because, he thinks I should be submitting to "important" places and I am nowhere even close to that level in my work. he has no idea how wonderfully talented you all are and I feel blessed to have a place here at Lit.

IfI missed anything Anna, this was an edited post cuz I was too tired last night. PLease spank me, please? :D

Lately I've been shirking my lurking ways and being absent altogether, but when I'm here I like the pretty AV's and the quirky voices. You can learn a lot from lurking. Poets are fun to watch :D

critique? If you take the time to tell me that you took the time to read my words -- I'm satisfied and thrilled. If you go on to tell me that you loved, hated or shrugged -- Gravy! If you suggest reasons for your reaction-- then desert is served.

Level of critique? Anything other than anonymous insults or gratuitous praise. Praise is luverly but plEAse tell me WHY you liked it – IF you did. I adore reading other's works. To see how others see the world and express themselves in poems is a rare possibility and one I appreciate very much.

What do you hope to contribute to the poetry community at literotica? What role do you see yourself playing here?

I just want to write and find Lit is a great site for feedback and learning. I don’t feel qualified to even think of teaching or offering advise. So, my role is an ever open mind and eager learner.

How would you describe your writing?

I see my writing – as I’ve said before somewhere else in this forum – as painting with words. My poems have replaced the art I can no longer create to my satisfaction. It is a satisfying substitute and quite similar.

I appreciate the sense of community here. Sure, it's been stressed to the point of tearing at times, but that's what happens in a place as inspirational and diverse as this.

In critique I appreciate any I receive, but as a note to those who feel inclined, please keep in mind that my education isn't in the arts and writing is what I do to relax and show off a little. I've said, before, that posting a product here at Literotica is like showing your tits in public; everyone will see what you've got but all will have a different opinion about what they see.

What do you hope to contribute to the poetry community at literotica? What role do you see yourself playing here?

Sporadic commentator, periodic critiquer, prolific contributor and sometime starter of thread or conversation...

I like to play.

How would you describe your writing?

I try to write what I feel. If I can find words to express my emotions or reactions to a bit of living then I feel blessed to be able to share them with others.
We are gifted with a facility in language thus we should take every opportunity to create and show works created with that talent. Skill will come with use.

*What you hope to get out of your time at lit (please include level of critique you are looking for)

The friendships found here far surpassed anything I was looking for at the start. As for critique, I'm open to any and all, but I don't hold any illusions that my writing will ever reach the level of most here. If nothing else, I'm lacking even more in discipline than I am in innate talent. ;)

Hi.. Du Lac here... new to the forum, but I do love it here. Lets see where we go with this....

*What you hope to get out of your time at lit (please include level of critique you are looking for)

Friendships, honesty on my writing ( so go ahead critique away) and a forum to explore a new side of my writing adventures.

*What do you hope to contribute to the poetry community at literotica? What role do you see yourself playing here?

I love to learn from others, as a seeker of knowledge, I see myself as one who will comment fairly, post my poetry for others to learn about me and how I see the world, and some good old debate in a peaceful way!

*How would you describe your writing?

How can I explain what evolves regularly. It is me on the pc, I am artisitic, spiritual and vague at times. This is reflected in my writing.... in the end... I say romantic, passionate and mysterious?

Here is my work on Lit:

*What you hope to get out of your time at lit (please include level of critique you are looking for)
I hope to have fun, to be part of a thriving group of poets unlike any I have encountered elsewhere. As for the level of critique I am looking for, I always hope for my poems to be vivisected and beaten senseless.

*What do you hope to contribute to the poetry community at literotica? What role do you see yourself playing here?
I hope to continue moderating the forum in the shadows. I hope to continue to grow, and for the opportunity to help others in the community to grow (whether they like it or not. :p)

*How would you describe your writing?
Angeline says it is post-modern. That's good enough for me. ;)

I try not to conform to one type, though, and I'm never afraid to experiment.

Hi, I'm not new.

What do I get: I read my favorites and I love Eve's avs. I love
to fine a work that knocks my socks off.

My role: Remind people about bars and beaches. Keep
it simple.

My writing: Will some one look up 'Her Subcommander' and
vote something, it's sitting with a hign score and nine votes
and has been. I know I shouldn't ask this, so consider
it a Christmas gift. Sorry I can't link to it, computer dumb ass.

What I like: I love the challenges (?). When my brain can't think
of anything it seems a challege comes up and gives me a reason
to write.

Re: Roll Call~ Poetry Forum

Me: Liar. That's my name, not my occupation. Ok, it's basically my occupation too, since I do business journalism for a living, tossing out vauge assumptions as truths all day. And I study rhetorics, which I assume will make me a better liar in the future. :)

*What you hope to get out of your time at lit
What I always hope to get out of everything I venture into: Fun. Inspiration. Friends. Education. The love of my life. Four out of five so far is not half bad.
Level of critique; As long as it's done with constructive intentions, I want my stuff scrutinized, spanked and slaughtered.

*What do you hope to contribute to the poetry community at literotica? What role do you see yourself playing here?
Hmm. Tricky one. I want to be this active, engaged helper, teacher when I can, and cheerleader when I don't have any insights to share. What I am however, is a little of that. But mostly a freeloader, soaking up a helluvalot of help, tutoring and cheerleading, wothout giving back to the community as much as I should. Remind me to buy you all a few cold ones in thanks one of those days.

*How would you describe your writing?
I'm a language fetishist. So I do my damndest to use sounds and tempo as much as the images and words to get the message through. Sometimes it works. Somtimes...well...not.

And for the giggle of it I write some smut stories too. But not too often.

Good thread, Anna!

*What you hope to get out of your time at lit (please include level of critique you are looking for)

I have no expectations. Hopefully, some fun banter, learning about other peoples' styles, and leaving public comments. If people say dumb things about my poems I just ignore them. Signs of intelligent life on the planet are encouraged.

*What do you hope to contribute to the poetry community at literotica? What role do you see yourself playing here?

Well, let's see...I 've already started two controversial threads which I have no regrets over. I have absolutely no fears, and will always challenge anything that smacks of phoniness or (ha) vagueness, unless I'm creating it of course. I can play any role that develops....helper, critiquer, challenger, co-writer, dissecter (!) Am always open to new possibilities.

*How would you describe your writing?

Extremely versatile, both poetry and prose. I can be funny, dead serious, flippant, vague, you name it. My four entries in the Winter Holiday Story Contest spanned a gay male/incest story, an advice column/how to story, a farcical humor entry, and a non-erotic offering, all completely different. My poems reflect my moods, one never knows what lies around the next corner.

*What you hope to get out of your time at lit (please include level of critique you are looking for)
The ability to write poetry well enough to keep death at bay for three or four minutes as a recite a poem to him (or is it her?).
As for critiques - these should be written with the same amount of thought as goes into a poem. The presumption that a lack of thought went into a poem does not give one the right to present commentary that lacks forethought as well; if anything it deserves just the opposite. It takes greater thought to teach than berate, so demonstrate greater thought to my crap and just nod like you get it when I get too vague.

*What do you hope to contribute to the poetry community at literotica? What role do you see yourself playing here?

I've got $.86 and a peppermint. Is that enough?

*How would you describe your writing?

I don't.
I use to sit in a coffee house and write with pen and paper. Folks would come up to me and ask me, "What are you writing?" at which point I would close the tablet and hand it over to them. Some would read a bit, some would read it all, and when they were done I'd tell them to write their names and dates in the margins. They'd ask why, and I said so that way when you come back the next time and ask me what I'm writing you can pick up where you left off.

aw, crap. That's the sorta thing that's so dependent upon a mood that I'd rather not single out one for this mood and cringe the next time I notice it no longer applies.

:p

I have been writing most of my adult life; for comedy troupes, tourist attractions and theaters. My proudest professional credit was being part of the team that wrote the Indiana Jones Stunt Show at Disneyworld. I only started writing poetry about a year ago. (other than a few efforts written because it was Valentine's Day and I was broke) I hope that reading the good, bad and ugly poems here will help me to learn. I really appreciate the informed criticism available here. I don't really think of myself as a poet yet, more a storyteller who sometimes writes in verse.
My biggest poetic influences are Shakespeare, Poe and Joni Mitchell.
My role? To single-handedly keep the sonnet alive. Rhyme is not a dirty word!
My poems tend to be romantic, even when they are about whips and chains and inhumanity. At the root of everything I write is the desire to seduce. And to make my Mistress and Muse Miss Oatlash proud.
I am proudest of my Denizens series, my sonnet cycle To Roxanne, and my long narrative poems; Jungle Lord, Forty Poets Wood and Dragon Princess.
I rarely comment on other's poems, because I don't really feel qualified yet, but I do read and vote.
Of all the people I have met on Lit, the poets are the ones I most cherish.

I also think I write some kick-ass erotica. Biker Barbie is a favorite.
Click on Mutt Stuff below for my work. Enjoy.

PS-- A lil white H on a field of red swells a lil poet's head.

*What you hope to get out of your time at lit (please include level of critique you are looking for)

Beavers like to be with wood-chewing creatures, bovines like to be with cattle, felines like to be with cats, and poets like to be with poets... that's my guess anyway. I once had a critique from John Frederick Nims, if that means anything to anybody. That is the level of "critique" I'm looking for, and find valuable as an artist.

*What do you hope to contribute to the poetry community at literotica? What role do you see yourself playing here?

I'd like to be a non-disruptive, non-controversy-causing valuable addition to the community of literary artists here.

*How would you describe your writing?

The most guiltless, and at the same time incriminating, thing I can say about it right now is that it is honestly mine. I've been accused of being "uneven," "inchoate," and numerous other things that are usually taken to be uncomplimentary. There's a ladybug that just flew to the top of my computer's monitor, however. I feel good about that.

What you hope to get out of your time at lit (please include level of critique you are looking for)

You know, I never really thought about it, much. I'm a very private, shy person, and I hadn't really let anyone read any of the things that I had written. Some friends, who'd asked about it, because they knew I did it, but that was it. I posted some poetry here to see if I could handle being 'in the public eye.'

*What do you hope to contribute to the poetry community at literotica? What role do you see yourself playing here?

I'm not around enough to play a role. I'm an occasional smartass that's a bit caught up in trying to accept becoming an adult. I have more to learn than to teach, at this point in my life and beyond cruising through some grade-a poetry, I am not sure there's much of a place for me, here. I am terrible at being involved with people - beyond a very small circle of friends, I tend to be a very disconnected kind of person, or at the very least demand to be the one approached. I don't reach out well, so I don't know that I'd be any good at playing a role, even if there was one for me here. it's why I don't complain about not getting many comments, or votes, really. While I read much of your work, I don't say much - I tried and never got past feeling uncomfortable about it. Maintaining a presence here is about the best I can do, and I'm ok with being a background/occasional figure. So, I guess that's my role, if I must name one. I'm just a backup singer.

Neo said about one of my pieces, "I like the street-talk," or something similar and I liked that comment enough to smile about it for a few minutes.

I've always loved to write, and have also always been a bit shy about sharing what pops out (and is sometimes edited and re-edited and re-edited until the paper crumbles and said poem disappears. ;) ) As far as critique goes, I'll take whatever is given. Please feel free to dig in, if you care to. All comments and critiques are heartily appreciated.

(Um...Unless you label 'critique' as calling someone an 'emotional f***wad'...laughs...one of the more ...colorful ...comments I've received)

*What do you hope to contribute to the poetry community at literotica? What role do you see yourself playing here?

I don't exactly know how to respond to this one. Reading the poetry posted here has been a wonderful experience, and I'm not reserved about voting. However, I am a bit hesitant with leaving comments for people whose poetry is wayyyy out of my league. :)
Hmm...would that make me a lurker?

*How would you describe your writing?

I love to play with words...sometimes too much. How's that for a description. :)

I'm especially fond of 'Butterfly Wings'.

*What you hope to get out of your time at lit (please include level of critique you are looking for)
I post because I feel compelled to share what I write. Besides cheap thrills, I'd like to get honest opinions of my work, in the hopes that I can further develop as a writer.

I comment and critique when I can. I read and vote when I can. I lurk a lot, read criticism and suggestions left for others, trying to absorb as much as I can.
