House Democratic Russia investigator Rep. Adam Schiff and his House Intelligence Committee colleagues grilled Stone for three hours in a closed-door interview at the Capitol, the lawmaker tersely accused Stone of refusing to answer at least one significant question — and suggested the longtime Trump associate could be compelled to return under the threat of a subpoena.

Stone claims that his two tweets were referring not to the impending release of emails but rather the “Podesta brothers’ business activities in Russia.” But when examined closely Stone’s alibi quickly falls apart, since virtually none of the deals he mentions have anything to do with John Podesta at all.

Last August, Stone said he was in communication with Julian Assange. Now he claims it was through an unnamed intermediary.

The WikiLeaks Tweets Roger Stone Can’t Explain

The dirty trickster has lots to say about the Trump-Russia probe—but he’s avoiding key questions

"Stone has claimed he only communicated with founder Julian Assange via an intermediary when WikiLeaks was mounting its campaign against Hillary Clinton. But after his three-hour, closed-door session with the committee, Stone told reporters he had declined to identify his claimed go-between."

Stone has acknowledged contacts with Guccifer 2.0, an online persona that US intelligence agencies say was a front for Russian intelligence agents who passed hacked emails from the Democratic National Committee and the Clinton campaign to WikiLeaks.

“His significance starts and ends with the question as to whether he worked with Russians while they were interfering in our election,” Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.), a member of the House Intelligence Committee, told Mother Jones Monday. “He demonstrated at least a willingness to work with the Russians. Was this just willingness or was this an active working relationship? That is still unresolved."

Stone said on Twitter more than a week later that it would soon be Hillary Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta's "time in the barrel."

Stone may be more forthcoming to the Grand Jury. Or incarcerated.

The investigation targets have a problem. Absent presidential pardons, which won't work in state prosecutions, the targets can avoid federal prison by blabbing on Russians. Alas, Russian mafiya don't like blabbers, so the targets might think they'll live longer in prison, staying quiet, than outside, blabbing. Unless they're convicted in NY and sent to Riker's Island, fuck me.

Question for former and current presidential staff: What scares you most?
