ROBERT NOVAK'S BIG SECRET

With Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald's investigation of the Valerie Plame (non) affair winding down, columnist Bob Novak decided it was time to disclose who his source was for the famous July 2003 column he wrote "outing" Valerie Plame. From Novak, we have now learned:

1. Karl Rove confirmed for Novak that Valerie Plame worked for the CIA.

2. CIA spokesman Bill Harlow also gave information about Plame to Novak.

3. A third person, described as a "senior administration official" will remain a mystery. Novak is not revealing his or her name, because the person in question has not revealed themselves.

So what does this all mean? Not much. The fact that no one was indicted for "leaking" Valerie Plame's name shows that non crime was committed in that regard. Evidently her status as a CIA employee was not that big of a secret. The fact that she was Joe Wilson's wife was no secret at all....Novak says he got her name from Joe Wilson's entry in "Who's Who in America." Some secret.

All of this just confirms one thing: that the whole Valerie Plame uproar was much ado about nothing.

That means no such thing. All it means is that they are getting away with something that others have been executed over.

Outing a CIA agent is TREASON. Any other excuse is just playing with semantics. I don't care how you try to spin it. It is TREASON and for members of the administration to out an undercover operative, which by all definitions Valerie Plame was, is unconscionable. Defending their behavior leads me to great questions about what you really believe in. How can you profess to love America while defending the very people who are trying to destory it. Who piss on the Constitution as a matter of course? How loudly would you be screaming for Clinton's blood had he done something as dishonorable, stupid, and TREASONOUS? Personally, I really like Clinton, but even I would want him executed over something like this. And they did it in a time of war no less! Is there anything these scumbags can do that you won't be an apologist for? If Dick Cheney gets caught raping a kitten will you be saying that the kitten was asking for it? There are very few things in the world that are truly black and white issues. Right or wrong. A Presidential administration outing a CIA agent to exert pressure on her husband for political reasons has no grey area. It is WRONG. Why are so many Americans defending this behavior?

Someone is going to have to step up and save America from its patriots if this is what patriotism means.

Anyone who outs an agent of any government, whatever their secrecy or cover level, automatically makes that agent a target for any terrorist wanting an easy target.

It was an action by the journalist and his informants, of complete irresponsibility, and unecessarily put her life in immediate danger. It also made her ineligble for any undercover work from that day on.

How you can say it was much ado about nothing, completely baffles me.

It was fucking stupid!

I'm pretty sure that her husband thinks it's a wee bit more than nothing, and so should everyone else in America.

Latest on BBC News.

Good for her !!

Dick Cheney sued

Good her, indeed!

But how pathetic. No criminal charges brought to bear, nothing done by our "government" so they must resort to a civil lawsuit.

Zeb; your post has a problem.

You state... "not that big of a secret".

Therefore... it was.

So I see two problems:

a) Something that should have been a secret... was 'not that big a secret' thus showing me that under this administration secrecy is not important.

b) Someone did actually open their yap about something that should have killed an interview immediately.

Q&A:

Novak: So is Victoria Plame a CIA agent.
Rove: Interesting... where did you get that information? In fact, no... I need to make a phone call, excuse me... uh, don't try to leave.

Sincerely,
ElSol

The crime wasn't in revealing that she was married to Joe Wilson. The crime was in revealing that she worked for the CIA.

Do you even understand what this whole affair was about?

I'm so glad they included that fuckhead Cheney in their suit. I hope Fitzgerald will get him on the stand under oath, too. He's the worst thing to happen to this country since Hoover, at least. Maybe ever.

I hope something positive will come of this.

Excuse me, zeb, but I'm perfectly capable of reading. I read that the first time. I was referring to the fact that she was murdered. You say that the whole Valerie Plame uproar was much ado about nothing. I'm pretty sure that her husband thinks her being murdered was a lot more than nothing.

And why, of all the people who posted to tell you that they thought you were wrong, did you decide that you wanted to yell at me? All I said was that I though her husband thought her murder and such was a pretty big deal. Boota called you a weaseling, treasonous idiot, basically, and it's me you decide needs correcting?

Yeesh!

Ok...was just corrected about something. Seems that whoever it was told me that she was dead was dead wrong. I don't follow the news and took their word for it. Still, her life is endangered and I think what I said applies. I think her husband would consider that a rather large deal.
