"Hey Tyler, are you ready?" Samantha had already tossed her bag into the back of his car and was standing beside the vehicle, awaiting her brother's arrival. Once he came out of the house and joined her in the car, they were off to California... and the beginning of a new life for her.
She tucked a strand of wavy chestnut hair behind one ear and leaned against the vehicle, looking quite picturesque in her gray tank top and tiny jeans shorts. The two of them had grown distant over the past few years, what with him moving and getting a job and her preparing for college. This road trip, intended to drop her off at her new college, might be the last time they got to see each other for a few years, and she wanted to make it one they would always remember.
That's why they had planned on taking it a bit slow -- stopping every night at a hotel and not focusing on covering as many miles in one day as they could. They were going to make the road trip itself a vacation of sorts, making it about the journey and not the destination. She just hoped it would be all they hoped it would be...
