Hello. Can anyone offer some easy-to-follow instructions on how to play Craps?

I am going to a casino next weekend and I am tired of playing (read: losing money on) slots. Only table game I have ever played is Blackjack since it is fairly easy. I have observed Craps but it moves so fast and is quite confusing to a mathematically - challenged imbecile like me!

If you can describe the basics of the game or point me to a website that can help, I would appreciate it. Thanks! :)

Not all too sure about this, seeing how I prefer games of skill over games of chance. But I do believe that the intent of the game is to get a roll of 7 or 11 with two dice involved. 11 pays out more than 7, still the chances of thou getting the exact number thou wants is fairly small. If thou intends to win any money milady, then I'd suggest sticking to Blackjack or perhaps poker. At least there thou willst have some influence over the game progression itself.

How to play craps? Just don´t, go for poker, that´s where you can win. Don´t know about the riverboat, but they might spread Hold´em or 7 Card Stud.

Save Craps for another trip. It isn't a game that you can master quickly.

Check out the gift shop at the casino for a book on "How to Play Craps" and study it before your next trip.

Craps is very popular with casino owners because they make a lot of money from it.

Well, CRAP(s)!!!

Thanks for your responses, gentlemen.

I didn't get the scoop on how to play but since you all seem to be in agreement, I guess it makes sense to 'know when to fold em' and give up on that idea. I do know how to play poker so I can give that a go. Or I can just stand nearby and watch everyone else lose their money! :)

Oh, and Harold? You really do have all the answers - gambling, t-shirts, computers and fluffy towels! Impressive! ;)

I'm a casino dealer (no craps in our casino) and I can't figure that damn game out. I'll get back to you on this when I come back from Vegas in June. I'm determined to learn. I'm told the best way to do this is to find a place that will teach you how to play. (There are casinos in Vegas that will hold lessons early in the day, and let you practice without emptying your wallet.) Then find something with a low limit. I've tried to figure it out playing on some of the online casinos (not for real money) and I still haven't a clue how it works.

Craps seems like a tricky game to learn, at least from trying to learn on the net or reading a book. Yet, I'm told that if you play the 'come' line (or is it the pass line, or don't pass line, I dunno) you can watch and win even money bets as you watch and learn. (Some places won't let you watch if you're not playing.)

My favourite table game is Roulette. The odds are quite high in favour of the house (5%) but it is easy to play, even though it looks intimidating. Play the outside bets, and if you are feeling lucky, venture on the inside numbers.

If you want to play the tables because you are sick of the one armed bandits taking your money, and you don't want to play blackjack, try one of the pokers. In my opinion the easiest game to start with is probably Let It Ride. Here you don't really have too much strategy to worry about and you aren't competing with the dealer. (You get three cards adn the dealer gets two and together you must make a winning hand, pair of 10s or better.) The thing to remember about most of the pokers, they are games of patience. You can play for hours without a decent hand, yet getting that one good hand gives you a nice payout.

Blackjack has the best odds for the player, (the house only has a 1-2% advantage), but that depends on following basic strategy to a certain extent. If you are going to play Blackjack, be sure to brush up on the strategy involved. A poor Blackjack player just increases the advantage for the house not only for him/herself, but for the rest of the players at the table.

If you want more info, email me or ask me to post. I'm new to this gambling industry but I'll be happy to help as much as I can. :)

Man...speaking of Gambling...I got caught gambling at school(playing craps) and the principal said that he would let me roll the dice...if I got a 7 or 11 I got off with no punishment...if I rolled anything between I would get that many spats(aka swats with a big wooden paddle) or I could take a month of detention...guess what I did :p

If you want to get with me Brainy... I played craps once upon a time, and could describe the rules and everything and tell you some of the odds... but it would be kinda long to post.

My suggestion stay away from craps, or just watch. Lots of good looking young play craps. I have a relative who is a compulsive gambler (clean for years now thank goodness) and craps was their game of choice. This person cannot get from one end of our city to the other by interstate without accidently ending up three counties over, but they could play craps all day and night. I don't understand stand it. Which side of the brain is that?

I have tried to understand the game and I am not a simple cookie. After a trip to Atlantic City, the Bahamas and three trips to Las Vegas I still haven't a clue.

Let craps go.

Special K, Talon, brikol and Derya:

Thanks for the advice. You've all convinced me! I think I will go with the majority opinion and avoid that game.

Maybe I will just head for the free buffet.

Don't give up on craps

Craps may be complicated and difficult to learn but it is the most entertaining game. Basically, everyone is betting on every throw of the dice so the table becomes an arena with everyone involved emotionally. You can bet on either the dice or the house or the shooter so there are a lot of angles to play. Its the only game where you will routinely hear shouts of excitment across the casino floor. That's probably why you were interested in it in the first place, because it seems (and is) like a spectator sport.
