River City Ransom

The concept was neat, although I think it could stand a little improvement. Nowadays it could be made into a really kickass game.

Possibly.

The thing that really made it great was it's simplicity. It didn't have any moves that took hours of practce to perfect. The graphics were simple and to the point- granted, they were weird, but that's part of why it's great.

If it were to be remade by anybody today, they would upgrade the graphics to the point where they would be unrecognizable, plus they'd have to add all the largely useless special moves that are always inadvertantly executed at the most inopportune times.

Not to mention the blasphemy of 'upgrading' the environment to the polygonal 3-D used now instead of keeping the pseudo 3-D environment already used.

Plus they'd probably have a rotating camera that followed you around, floating directly behind your head so it would be next to impossible to see anything.

No, I think it's perfect the way it is.

Possibly the greatest thing to come out of the 80's.
I think the albums Thriller or Atchung Baby would be more deserving of that title.

It was a great game though.

Yeah, not every game concept is made for 3D. Mega Man is not a 3D game. Sorry. Shadowgate. Castlevania. Street Fighter. RCR would also qualify.

With some finesse, some games can graduate to the 3D world. Mario was fun, as was Zelda. Soild Snake made the transition nicely. The (new) worlds of Final Fanatsy (give me good old Mode 7 when i cut it loose with Cecil and kain though).
