I have rituals that comfort me , sometimes the need for them is not presented by chaos or despair they are just small things that make me happy, probably in advance of the everyday expectation of such. I 'need' them at different times for different reasons and they do not fall into the realm of OCD type behaviours, I would be interested to know what things people chose to repeat from time to time for the comfort factor...............

Seeing as I started this Thread I guess I'll give a small range of mine as examples

  • sleeping on my side with one hand behind my back ( deliberate )

  • tealights so I can have little flickering candles

  • fresh oriental lillys but they have to be closed

  • really strong iced coffee blended with tons of ice

  • fresh green herbs on food

  • money to spend in book shops

  • particular brand of japanese incense I burn

  • feeling of a hairbrush on my scalp when there are NO knots left

OMG I have so many now I really sit and think about it. Some of them to me are orientated towards expressions of myself as a submissive .......not going off track with that at the moment however.......smiles. Hijacking ones own thread in a first post is well............I am just not 'going there'.

All these things at times bring small but real comforts in an often hectic world . I really relish the opportunity to see in this Thread other things expressed as people share.......

Looks at all the names of the regulars that are 'on board' or have been and ignoring this Thread so far ..................APATHETIC DAMN PERVERT FREAKS.........laughs

 Ohhh or is settling in here awhile and returning to Threads you usually frequent perhaps one of these said 'rituals' that comfort ...........smiles ;)

Hmmm, a few:

* Looking up into the night sky (being drawn into the sky)
* Pacing
* Mopping or doing dishes
* Drawing/sketching
* Working in the darkroom
* Wandering the back roads (probably a variation of pacing)

Just a few

Hot, hot HOT baths

Reading in bed

Singing

Snuggling up with my body pillow

Climbing in a freshly made, freshly laundered bed

Chocolate Covered Cherries

comfort

Funny thing is that being pagan & have rituals for everything...
My comfort ones include ( but are not limited to ):

*Burning Kashmire insence ( can't for long tho it fraks out on of the pets)

*Burning Lemongrass for relaxation (& the pets are all ok with it)

*Pure milk chocolate... in damn near any form...
hard squares, hot drink, fudge, candy bars, in cold milk form, drizzled on mint chocolate ice cream...

* going out to a lake or a field & enjoying the peaceful calm I feel as I "energy wise-ground" myself...

* last but not least... taking one of the pets out of it's cage & just sitting patting it...

I have a couple of different driving rituals which even living in LA with its hellish commuting hasn't killed for me.

- Driving up the Pacific Coast Highway usually between Santa Monica and Buenaventura. Sometimes I'll take a picnic or my dog and sometimes I just need the drive. This was what I did the day after my grandmother died.

- Driving around town looking at interesting houses or buildings. LA isn't chock-a-block with great architecture, but there are still some fascinating things to be seen if you keep your eyes open.

Other comfort rituals include -

- listening to old mix tapes I made in highschool and college

- running through my scent memories ---- I have certain things that smell like my childhood or remind me of specific times in my life or places that I can bring out and sniff and it's almost like time travel. Nag Champa incense reminds me of a baby book I had called Pat the Bunny. Jergens hand lotion with Aloe smells like the summer I was 14 and reminds me of a guy I had a serious crush on.

- "Nesting" sorts of things. I'm not particularly domestic on a daily basis. I don't sweep and vacuum every day or dust etc. I am many orders removed from any kind of neat freak, but when the mood strikes it feels good to put my house in order. I'll get excited about cooking something or many somethings and do nothing but cook for a couple of days.

- Buying books, reading books, having books, consuming books

- horror movie marathons with delivery pizza

- tactile indulgence particularly if it's coupled with scent--- hence my infatuation with leather and hides.

- talking to myself and not just normal conversations but absurd stuff with sound effects. Don't knock it. I haven't yet shot anyone on the freeway and I'm convinced that this is why.

- singing --- it just feels good to do

- raw chocolate chip cookie dough

Thinking outloud is good way to organize your thoughts and also added benefit of making people give you wierd looks and such. I learned 2 rules of driving in Cali are brakelight stomp and lane shift shuffle. When anyone hits their brakes enough to have the lights come on then its like a domino effect, then after that happens everyone switches lanes trying to get ahead. :D

- writing during the night with a fountain pen on fine manufactured paper
-watching old sci fi movies (mainly Star Trek  ) eating slices of pizza from the box
- driving along the sea listening old music tapes ( yeah tapes not cd ..lol)
- the first look at saturday or sunday newspaper while coffee is getting ready in the moka
- going out for dinner with one of my best friends gossipping and laughing the whole night
- the adrenaline rising at the table during some hard business negotiations
- a long day in a beauty salon cuddling myself ......

.......just to be short on the subject but I could add a long list ! :) :rose:

edit to add ... great thread !

Things that comfort me~
  • meditation~usually while burning sandalwood incense. This gets done every night.
  • prayer~ 3 times a day~morning, noon, night. Usually they are rather short chants but a chant in sacred space is prayer.
  • a hot cuppa chamomile tea made with fresh chamomile and mint leaves in a completely darkened room.
  • a hot bath with candle light and sandalwood scented water.

I have many more, some from my active submissive days so I will add as the mood takes me.

Luna :rose:

Seriously...

Grinding the coffee beans in the morning.

Writing in my journal just before shutting down for the night.

Cleaning house while listening to loud classic rock.

Cooking while listening to soft classical music.

Eating 2 Milano cookies after paying my bills.

Arranging the toys for erotic expression.

Oh and graceanne slipping between freshly washed sheets that have been hung out in the sun.

I'll give it a try also:

Rereading The Lord of the Rings every year in the spring.

Taking walks in the evening during the spring, summer and fall.

Sitting under shade trees in the summer.

Cuddling with my dogs.

Playing golf.

Listening to classic rock while driving.

A fire in the fireplace, hot chocolate with cinnamon sticks and scented candles on a cold windy wintry night.

Waiting for the robins to come back to officially announce spring is here.

Lavender scented bubble baths in a bathroom lit by lavender scented candles.

Listening to a certain song.

Watching my garden daily. First crocus (the rabbits eat em), then the tulips (they eat those too) then that one daffodil that blooms every year for my daughters birthday.

Sitting on a blanket in the yard with a book that never seems to get opened, while i drink in the sounds and scents and welcome back the warmth of the sun.

Actually KC, my wife likes lilac scented candles in the bathroom and I don't mind them much either. :D

Playing golf, you mean you can hold your temper and not wreck your game??

Yes I can. I used to get upset at bad shots but then I asked myself why I was out there. The answer was to relax and enjoy. As long as I keep that in mind, I just have a relaxing time away from everythng else. :)

Kudos to you then, when I tried golf was like 10 years ago and was lacking some of the restraint I have now, but now I hate the game becuase my old unadopted family likes it.

I've mentioned this elsewhere in the past, but talking to Orion (on a crisp winter's night when I can see him) always has a calming effect for me.

There was also a grotto I liked to walk at my old school. Even long after I graduated I used to go there just to wander about. I don't live close by anymore, so I don't get there all that often nowadays, but every once in awhile when I really need it I'll go out of my way.

Why yes it is. I hold it in my claws and swing it that way.

I first tried the game when I was in college (1974) and was very much into it in the late 90's to the early 00's. The last couple of years I haven't played so much.
