No, not a Hollywood millionaire.

This guy was a UK policeman caught up in the 1980 Iranian Embassy siege and kept captive for a week, during which time he refrained from going to the bathroom because that would have revealed that he was an armed member of the Diplomatic Protection Team.

When the SAS stormed the embassy he saved the life of one of those SAS men. He was awarded the George Cross, the highest award possible for people not in the military.

The thought of 'What's in it for me' never crossed his mind.

Thanks for the post. It’s funny I can recall the American embassy take over in Iran, but not this one. Maybe it didn’t get the coverage here. Sounds like this man did his duty, then a whole lot more. RIP Officer Lock🇬🇧

How is that physically possible?

I remember watching it live. The word went round the office that something was going on and the entire staff from management to cleaner descended on the canteen where there was a TV.

Not a word (apart from the odd 'fuck' when the grenades went off) was spoken until it was over.

Being a diplomatic protection officer Lock was one of the very few UK police to be carrying a firearm, which the terrorist knew nothing about.

He didn’t really eat or drink the whole 6 days to avoid needing to use the toilet because doing so would’ve meant taking off his uniform jacket which was hiding his service revolver.

No one could live 6 days without drinking water.

‘Didn’t really’ doesn’t mean he didn’t didn’t drink at all, it means he limited his intake to the bare minimum to avoid the hazardous trips to the toilet.

From what I remember, it was the eating that he really avoided more because those resulting toilet trips would mean more undressing.
