Tue Apr 23,12:20 AM ET
By COLLEEN LONG, Associated Press Writer

DENVER (AP) - Linda Boreman, who starred as Linda Lovelace in the 1972 pornographic film "Deep Throat" and later became an anti-porn advocate, died Monday from injuries she suffered in a car crash. She was 53.

Boreman was taken to Denver Health Medical Center with massive trauma and internal injuries after the April 3 accident, hospital spokeswoman Sara Spaulding said. She was taken off life support Monday, Spaulding said.

A fond farewell to an American pioneer. I was never a great fan of hers but I respect and admire the courage she showed in pioneering mainstream porn.

I suggest organizing a round-the-clock suicide watch for riff.

Remove all sharp objects from his apartment and take away his shoelaces.

For a bit I thought this was Ada Lovelace... I knew she'd already kicked it.

I'll hide my screwdriver.

What a bummer she died, but more so that she became an anti porn advocate.

Karma will always get you. Porn is a good kind of bad..... not to be advocated against.

Rest in Peace!

I remember seeing her as a guest speaker at the University of Alabama in the 70's. We had a program called Sex Week that was pretty cool! While she was speaking 2 guys wearing ONLY SKI MASKS came streaking in presented her with a dozen red roses and trotted out. Those were fun days!

If I am not mistaken, the woman was quite miserable in life. We can only hope that she found some peace at the end.

LOL

I was never a fan. One less pornstar in the world. Who's next?

Edit: When Rebecca dies... well :(

hate to break this to you but she spent most of her life speaking out tirelessly against pornography. Being known as a "pioneer" for the industry probably sickens her.

Amen.

Now only was she exploited as a porn star, but also by the anti-porn camp, in my opinion.

everyone oughta enjoy a lil deep throating tonight......in remembrance.....god bless her non-gagging soul.....;)

I read somewhere that "Deep Throat" would have been one of the top 50 all-time grossing movies if it's sales had been included with mainstream Hollywood films. I don't think it would be that high now, but still, it was the first BIG porn film hit.

And if she became an anti-porn activist later on, hey, freedom of speech goes both ways. I don't believe in censorship, even if the person speaking is in favor of censorship. Maybe that's why my head hurts so much.

Rest in Peace, Linda.

I recall that in 1972 I had moved to Virginia, It was my first time away from home. I met a Viet Nam Vet where I worked. One day he asked me if I wanted to see a movie called "Deep Throat", me, being a naive 18 year old asked him what is it about. So he told me and we went to the Warwick Theatre in Hampton Virgina and saw the movie. I had never seen anything like that in my life.:) I saw her in later years, she looked pretty rough used and abused. Hopefully she is at peace.

"Deep Throat" was the first porn film I ever saw (outside of a couple of terrible short, silent, Super 8 stag films my dad had), on a doulbe bill with "The Devil in Miss Jones" at a theatre in Times Square where, suddenly, plenty of "mainstream" people were going. Both films had this "gotta see it" cache that really crossed over and brought porn out of the shadows.

Still, "Deep Throat" sucked, pun intended. (So did "Miss Jones", by the way.)

I was sad to hear later how her husband had forced her to do the movie. I saw a TV report where she described how, in one scene where she had to drive a car, her husband hid n the car floor, out of cmera range, with a gun, just to make sure she wouldn't try to drive away. It was disturbing because I remembered that scene, and I feel ashamed at having been in any way sexually turned on by the flick.

I've read parts of her book, and I gotta say any porn that makes women go through what she did in it's production is bad period - thankfully, there's also good bad porn out there ;)

I'm sorry to hear of her death, I really admired her for speaking out about what she was put through, even if she did, IMHO, go a little overboard in putting down all porn.

Yep. There is some weird shame I feel now when because of the fact that I was turned on by Savannah in the past. She must have been miserable to kill herself. She seemed to like what she was doing? Don't they all seem like that?

It makes you wonder.

I have heard it said that women in the business don't last long because of the mental/emotional strain of the job.

Some suicides off the top of my head:

Megan Leigh
Savanna
Shauna Grant
Alex Jordan

If you go to the RAME site, you can find an index of dead pornstars and read all about it. I would have to post a link from home later tonight if you are interested.

there is a brief list of dead porn star bios at excalibur's site. They have capsules on suicides and non-suicides there.

i think it is sad that she passed...i also think it is more sad that people can joke about her death...i would hope once i pass on, no one would ever make rude or lewd comments...she seemed to be truly troubled by her life and i always feel sadden for anyone who has/had troubled feelings about their life...

i am with all those who who say they hope she rest in peace...
