RIP Jay Black

I had several of their albums (Jay and the Americans) - such a fun band and wonderful Voice

I'm a metal head, but my other music passion is doowop and Motown, loved Jay and the Americans.

I'll always remember That Magic Moment from the scene in the Sandlot:D

His real name was David Blatt. He wasn't the first Jay of Jay and the Americans. They recorded one record with the original, who's real name was Jay. When he joined the band they told him he had to change his name to Jay so the stage name of Jay Black was created.

The dude could sing. What a voice. RIP.

My musical tastes are eclectic. I have music from across the spectrum on my playlist: bluegrass, heavy metal, soft rock, popular, country, blues, Motown, some jazz and a few classical pieces. The only thing I don't have much of is rap. It just doesn't seem to do it for me.

For me the thing about Jay and the Americans is the memories as much as the music: cruising the A&W on a Saturday night, windows down, drowned in Jade East cologne ('cause we thought it was attractive to the girls...uhuhu, I cringe at the thought now) in my buddy's parents 1967 Chevy trying to look cool with songs like that blaring from the radio. It's amazing how things like that can bring back memories from so long ago.

Before my time. My time was the 80's driving my done up Nova SS, blasting Maiden through the alpine stereo, wearing the denim vest with all the metal patches over a leather jacket, and fighting with the "guidos" which were the money kids....picture the movie the Outsiders with the two factions. We were hicks they were guids.

If you could hook up with one the guid girls with their big aquanet hair and daddy's girl money, it was like a badge of honor. The hick girls on the other hand laughed at the guids with their bling and parachute pants and Iroc's and Z28's

well...you took me back 30+ years just now, thanks!

You're welcome. Ain't it amazing how a song or a scent can send you on a mental voyage back through the years?
