He was one of my favorites. The Belgarion series is still one of those I pull off the shelves when I'm sick. Comfort reading, those.

As a 13 y.o kid, I slugged my way through the untranslated Belgariad with novel in one hand, and a dictionary in the other. It's not an exaggeration to say that David Eddings taught me the English language. And there was an ease to the prose and an instant likeability to characters and storylines, that inspired me more than anything to start writing my own stories.
