RIP Brian Wilson

Yikes. Rest in peace Brian

The Beach Boys are classic and all, but he's also the namesake of one of my favorite songs, which is about the crazy places that a feeling of creative drought can take you to.

His Pet Sounds album is ranked the #2 greatest album according to Rolling Stone Magazine. He was a genius and his striving for perfection resulted in a mental breakdown that affected the rest of his life.
The Beach Boys were part of my teens. Those warm summer evenings cruising the town, the windows down and the Beach Boys filling the air from a single speaker over an AM station. There was no other sound like the Beach Boys and Brian was the catalyst, the substance that made it happen. Damn.

Comshaw

RIP to a legend.
Didn't really appreciate them until I took a class on the history of rock in college.
Professor was a huge Brian Wilson fan boy, was eye opening for someone who had just thought of them as the band who did silly surf songs from way back.

My fiancée at the time (ex wife now) and I saw him live in concert with all the other Beach Boys at a club on Lake Travis in Austin back in 2010. It was fantastic. His loss is felt.

Tried singing a choral Beach Boys medley a couple of years ago - absolute murder. Genius, but murderous genius.

If you've read my stories, you'll find they are mostly in the southern California area as I try to recapture the California that the Beach Boys sang about. Unfortunately, that California no longer exists, but it still lives on in my memories, and I hope, in my stories.

Pet Sounds is right up there with the best Beatles albums. If you like that kind of melodic, 60s pop, it doesn't get better.

I thought of that song too. I was not yet born when the Beach Boys reached their peak, but I do remember the Barenaked Ladies debut in 1991/1992. Some good memories that include the Gordon album playing in the background.

I wish they all could be California Girls…

Went to college in California in the 70s. And spent many as many weekends at the beach as possible. That song still ring in my ears.

Did you know he covered it (well, one verse and the chorus) at a live performance?
A musical genius. We were lucky to have him for as long as we did.
