SETTING UP ANOTHER “I TOLD YOU SO.”

Now that Bush has decided the Navy is going to stop using that half-assed little Puerto Rican island for bombing and artillery practice – the question is, where next?

I note that the people in the military-friendly Florida panhandle are pushing the massive Eglin Air Force Base as a replacement site. No doubt it would be good for the panhandle economy.

Hold on, though. Here’s a little heads up. As soon as the Navy announces plans to step-up the training at Eglin look for the leftist eco-radicals to come out of the woodwork. They’ll start screaming about infant mortality, some sonic heart disease nonsense, and damage to the environment. The animal-rights weirdoes will scream about rats and mice and snakes and stuff getting bombed.

Just thought I would let you know.

Damn, Todd, you sure have a lot of opinions about the US...for a Canadian! I think you ought to move down here. We could use another Conservative. God knows, those of us who are left here are lonely enough...

You might not want to suggest that, I might take you up on the offer of becoming an immigrant

All naval exercises for all military organizations of all countries should be conducted in one single far, away remote place never visited by women and children -- Easter Island.

Or Todd's house.

Why the hell are we dropping bombs are perfectly good US real estate? What about all those countries we've whipped in wars gone by? Let's drop bombs on them. Turn southern Iraq into our new weapons training area. Turn Vieques into the new Cancun.

Yes Easter Island...

Aim for the nose?

That will remove that Cheshire-cat like superiority...

WhyEaster Isalnd? Bikini Atoll and several other atolls in the Pacific still glow in the dark. Nah, that would make night bombing exercises too easy.

what's the point in using real bombs anyway? We know what bombs do. Can't they just drop unarmed bombs and pretend to go "BOOM"

90% of the bombs dropped on US military bombing ranges are "practice bombs" that are either full sized casings filled with Cement with only a smoke charge to mark the spot for scoring, or smaller bombs designed to have the same ballistics as the bigger ones.

Artillery and Ships guns are another story. I know Aircraft guns have "TP" ammunition that is just lead bullets, but I don't think it's possible to build ammunition for Big guns that flies the same as live ammo.

"Live Fire" exercises are important, though. Knowing intellectually that "bombs go boom" and actually feeling the concussion and dodging the tower of smoke and dust as you pull off the target aren't "real" until you've experienced it.

Despite Weird Harold's very nice response that's the funniest damn thing I ever heard.

Besides,

many on the Island who enjoyed the financial benefits of having the US Navy around are now beginning to have some second thoughts on whether or not they've done a good thing!

And by bombing Easter Island, aren't we declaring war on Peru, or Equador, or Venezuala. Doesn't somebody claim it? If not, let's all move, take the constitution, and shoot one more time for a republic! I want to head up the fine state of confusion!
