Andy Rooney said on "60 Minutes" a few weeks back:

I don't think being a minority makes you a victim of anything except numbers. The only things I can think of that are truly discriminatory are things like the United Negro College Fund, Jet Magazine, Black Entertainment Television, and Miss Black America. Try to have things like the United Caucasian College Fund, Cloud Magazine, White Entertainment Television, or Miss White America; and see what happens...Jesse Jackson will be knocking down your door.

Guns do not make you a killer. I think killing makes you a killer. You can kill someone with a baseball bat or a car, but no one is trying to ban you from driving to the ball game.

I believe they are called the Boy Scouts for a reason, that is why there are no girls allowed. Girls belong in the Girl Scouts! ARE YOU LISTENING MARTHA BURKE?

I think that if you feel homosexuality is wrong, it is not a phobia, it is an opinion.

I have the right "NOT" to be tolerant of others because they are different, weird, or tick me off.

When 70% of the people who get arrested are black, in cities where 70% of the population is black, that is not racial profiling, it is the Law of Probability.

I believe that if you are selling me a milkshake, a pack of cigarettes, a newspaper or a hotel room, you must do it in English! As a matter of fact, if you want to be an American citizen, you should have to speak English!

My father and grandfather didn't die in vain so you can leave the countries you were born in to come over and disrespect ours.

I think the police should have every right to shoot your sorry ass if you threaten them after they tell you to stop. If you can't understand the word "freeze" or "stop" in English, see the above lines.

I don't think just because you were not born in this country, you are qualified for any special loan programs, government sponsored bank loans or tax breaks, etc., so you can open a hotel, coffee shop, trinket store, or any other business.

We did not go to the aid of certain foreign countries and risk our lives in wars to defend their freedoms, so that decades later they could come over here and tell us our constitution is a living document; and open to their interpretations.

I don't hate the rich. I don't pity the poor.

I know pro wrestling is fake, but so are movies and television. That doesn't stop you from watching them.

I think Bill Gates has every right to keep every penny he made and continue to make more. If it ticks you off, go and invent the next operating system that's better, and put your name on the building.

It doesn't take a whole village to raise a child right, but it does take a parent to stand up to the kid; and smack their little behinds when necessary, and say "NO!"

I think tattoos and piercing are fine if you want them, but please don't pretend they are a political statement. And, please, stay home until that new lip ring heals.! I don't want to look at your ugly infected mouth as you serve me French fries!

I am sick of "Political Correctness." I know a lot of black people, and not a single one of them was born in Africa; so how can they be "African-Americans"? Besides, Africa is a continent. I don't go around saying I am a European-American because my great, great, great, great, great, great grandfather was from Europe. I am proud to be from America and nowhere else

And if you don't like my point of view, tough...??

:) :)

He's entitled to his opinion, certainly, but I could pick it apart easily, there's that much wrong with it.

We'll just have to agree to disagree, shall we?

Sure no problem, I love ya anyway!

He's an old fart, and he's earned the right to his opinions. Just like my old father though, he wants to simplify so many things, and of course that doesn't work. I do agree with some of his opinions, taken with a grain of salt... but-
ry to have things like the United Caucasian College Fund, Cloud Magazine, White Entertainment Television, or Miss White America; and see what happens.
We used to have exactly those things, remember? blacks at the back of the bus.. Blacks barred from hotels, bathrooms, restaurants. So, what we're seeing is exactly- what happens.

I think that if you feel homosexuality is wrong, it is not a phobia, it is an opinion.
If you think that every gay man is out to fuck you, then it's a phobia. Not to mention, utterly narcissistic. And if you think that you have the right to tie a gay kid to the back of your truck and drag him to his death, then I'd like to do the same to you.

I also think our children should learn a second language- ANY language at all would be fine- from Kindergarten on. It contributes a great deal to the general I.Q.

What Stella said. The black channels, black pageants, etc., were formed in reaction to everything being white as white can be.

I think that if you feel homosexuality is wrong, it is not a phobia, it is an opinion.
Its not an opinion, its a bias, and in this instance, an ugly one.

I have the right "NOT" to be tolerant of others because they are different, weird, or tick me off.
This is just asinine to the nth degree.

When 70% of the people who get arrested are black, in cities where 70% of the population is black, that is not racial profiling, it is the Law of Probability.
Show me a city where 70% of the population is black. Profiling happens, we all know it does. Another asinine statement.

My father and grandfather didn't die in vain so you can leave the countries you were born in to come over and disrespect ours.
*climbs on high horse*

Why the fuck not? White folks certainly "disrespected" those that were here first. What goes around, comes around. Deal with it.

I believe that if you are selling me a milkshake, a pack of cigarettes, a newspaper or a hotel room, you must do it in English! As a matter of fact, if you want to be an American citizen, you should have to speak English!
see above.

How about "stay home if it bothers you that much."

<sigh> Some people believe anything that gets forwarded to them in an email. Aside from the deplorable notion of agreeing with this collection of racist, sexist and otherwise bigoted remarks by saying "Right on," Rooney never said any of them.

http://www.snopes.com/politics/soapbox/rooney4.asp

Here is a handy rule of thumb - any collection of pithy comments on the state of society (and they are generally of the conservative, "I'm so sick of political correctness" variety) that gets forwarded to you via email or is found elsewhere on the Internet is almost certainly fabricated by an anonymous writer who then attaches some famous person's name to the list to lend it a sense of legitimacy it would never otherwise achieve. I'd say 99 percent of these are fake. If you're not sure, it takes about ten seconds to look it up and check the accuracy of these quotations.

I don't have a clue who this fella is, but hey, he has points but he's putting them across in a way he know's will rile some people (maybe alot of people) up. He is completely entitled to his opinion and I reckon he'd get on really, really well with my Nanna, bless her.

And on a seperate note, I don't suppose he's related to the only Rooney I know, is he? Wayne Rooney of Manchester United and England Footballing genius fame? No,I didn't think so.

What a nice little hunk!

I never said I agreed or disagreed with what was quoted.

Fortunatly, I disagree with a lot of what was said in this fake, oh and I knew it was a fake when I posted, it justed didn't sound like Mr. Rooney. There are some points that I do agree with but that's my business and I will keep those to myself as I'm sure no one here wants to hear them.

Hope you all had fun! :D

There are some fairly good points mixed in amongst those, and certainly enough for me to see where Zeb was coming from. However, some extremely dumb ones as well.

He's lovely, not my cup of tea mind, though he plays football orgasmically, seriously. He's a delight to watch. I  his little cotton socks (and the rest of'im too)

Anyone who does anyting orgasmically- is a blessing and a joy. I remember waaay the fuck back in '79, maybe? watching the Superbowl (American) football game between the Pittsburgh and Dallas. Terry Bradshaw was so incredibly good that he taught me to love football...

I sorta doubt Andy rooney actually said those things. Not that it would be at varraince with him, just a few lines there don't sound Andy like.

Good answer. I agree. There are holes in that big enough to drive trucks (lorries ;) ) through, but I'll just leave them. Its just not worth the effort.

Detroit.

I live right down the road, so I know firsthand... even if these stats didn't back it up...

"The racial makeup of the city was 81.55% Black or African American, 12.26% White, 0.33% Native American, 0.97% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 2.54% from other races, and 2.32% from two or more races. 4.96% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race."

One city...out of how many in the states? We all know racial profiling happens, trying to deny it is just silly.

You just said show me a city... so I did! ;)

as for racial profiling, you have my agreement...

It's all in how you frame it. Jackson proper is over 70% black. The demographic changes radically if you include the Jackson/metro area.

I suspect within the actual city limits of many large cities, the population is highly minority, be it black or hispanic of asian, depending on the city's geographical location.

This isn't too hard to understand. Suburban flight has been around for decades. In general, those who cannot afford to move to the burbs are those who are poor. And in general, in an urban setting, those poor are minorities.

I know in Jackson, the pattern is accelerated by a poorly thought out taxation policy. For several years, the city council made up for budget shortfalls by raising the tax on bussinesses. Those bussinesses, eventually closed their doors and moved across countline road to Madison or across the pearl to Rankin, where taxes were much less. Faced with a continuing shortfall, Jackson began raising taxes on property. The first people to go were the very rich, they just moved across county line and bought bigger homes. With each loss, the taxes went up, with eachtax hike, it beacme economically viable for another group of wage earners to move, until the only people who could afford to live in the city proper were either living in multi family housing devlopments, not paying taxes because they were poor or those who had reached the age of 65 and no longer had to pay property tax.

I suspect the pattern is the same in many large cities. And by default, those left living in the city limits are those who cannot afford to get out.

Sigh.

The people who bitch most about political correctness are usually upset that it isn't their form of political correctness.

Did you ever wonder what TV execuvives are thinking? Like the ones at CBS. You know, the guys who leave an opinionated old fart on the air and whose time has long since passed while his eyebrows look like they're on miracle grow.

Fake or not fake, PC or not, dumb or not, I think this one is a peculiar study in grammar and semantics:

I think that if you feel homosexuality is wrong, it is not a phobia, it is an opinion.

Does it say that feelings are opinions, or that what he thinks in an opinion?

I think that if I think a comma splice is a grammatical flaw, it is not an opinion; it is a fact. ;)

Amen. Or as the delightful Miss Manners observes, those who now cry the loudest about political correctness are inevitably those who were oddly silent about racism and sexism.

not that i don't disagree but is that some point to which political correctness could be taken as to me too damn far?

i mean, why call it a digging implement? it's a spade!

There's one simple answer to all questions of what to call a person. It's "what that person chooses to be called." If it's a group of people, it's what the best sampling you can do establishes that the majority prefer.

Naming people (or groups) is not primarily about one's own convenience. Otherwise, I'd just call my 3-levels up supervisor "twat." Name usage, socially speaking, carries with it connotations related to one's familiarity with the person/people and one's level of respect for them. When one is not on familiar terms, one indicates respect by using the name or title that that person or group prefers. A spade doesn't care what it's called; a person does.
