or is it aren't? fuck it. the point is i've been watching a few movies with rifftrax attached and they make me happy. goes good with harry potter. just thought i'd share that thought with you worthless assholes. you're welcome.

if you're still too lazy to google it's pretty much the last few seasons of mst3k but without puppets.

It's some of the guys from "Mystery Science Theater 3000" who decided that more mainstream and popular movies could benefit from their treatment, so they devised a way to sell their jokes without having to pay the licensing fees for the movies.

Thank you for being one of the things that Sonny and Kippies are not.

Ah, my kindred.

I dl'ed and watched Rifftrax: Avatar last night.

Yeah, thanks. I grok the word. How does it change the chord?

Next you'll tell me "rit." is a comment on your chewing at the dinner table.
It's not that it changes a chord, it's that it is a chord. To build it, allow 1.5 steps between each note (A dim = A, C, Eb, Gb).

By the way, a bit of math/logic might have led you to discover this, but because there are 1.5 steps between each note, and because the notes are equally spaced, there are really only three diminished chords/scales.

Think of the one you just built on A. Go up a half step and you'd build another on Bb. Go up another half step and you'd build yet a third on B.

Now your next half-step up will lead you to C. C dim = C, Eb, Gb, A. Look back up at the A dim notes and you'll see they're all the same, the only change is the A is on top now (which is not really a change).

I'm hearing the final bit of "Glass Onion" here.

Not yet. I'll check it out next, though.

I've been through their take on the LOTR trilogy and IJ and the Crystal Skull, and the Twilight series, but no Titanic yet.

In the meantime, for anyone (Perg) who wonders what Rifftrax can do (and an added bonus if you hate Twilight), here's a sample! Rifftrax vs. Bella Swan

Exactly.

Great amounts of useless academic ink has been spilled on the diminished chord in the last century or so, against all conception and necessity.

"Cinematic Titanic" is a project of some of the other guys from Mystery Science Theater 3000, where they do their riffing to low-grade movies live on stage. Some of their efforts are available on DVD.

you should. cinematic titanic is joel and pretty much everyone from mst3k besides mike, bill and tom servo (i can't fucking remember his name!!) and i do mean pretty much everybody.

I like 'em both. They've helped ease my pain over MST3K's demise.

Not sure which I like better. I always kinda leaned more toward Joel as host on MST3K, with Mike showing up as Torgo or Steve Reeves or that sorta thing. I just liked having them both on the show. I guess it's cool that they're both still out there for my amusement.

Ah, crappity. Believe it or not, I knew that. Thanks for the reminder.

Oh, to live in a city where that might happen. I'll look into the DVDs, but...

A few years back I saw YouYube clips of Joel and the gang doing cinematic titanic. I didn't forget about it, I just forgot they called it cinematic titanic. At the time, I got the distinct impression that, unlike Rifftrax, there's something missing unless you see cinematic titanic live, so I just didn't look into it further.

Have you or phrodes seen it live? Are the DVDs really worth it?

Okay, see, this is the stuff I was wondering. Maybe that link you gave me isn't what I really want, math/logic/theory based guy that I am. Maybe what I need is a chord tutorial, like the above, but starting with some basics. Remember, I'm a primarily single-note instrument guy. Your post I've quoted is just a little too advanced, I think. It might help if I had something like a rubric that started with "C major is these three notes, because a major chord is the following three intervals. Then C minor is this, because 'minor' means the middle note is a half step lower." Etc.
