Anyone with knowledge of this fine city, please advise a northern boy on where to go, what to see, and any classic eats.

lots of pubs in "the bottom" as it's called, like Penny Lane
they have lots of bar crawls in this area

there's lots of cultural restaurants too like this one

the Tobacco Company downtown is another favorite

what do you like to eat....?

Ipanema Grill looks delicious.

I'm a big seafood fan, but in a new city I like to check out the local favorites.

Any highlights for a history buff?

I've been to the Museum of The confederacy. It was both supremely cool and kind of eery.

Haha, this is great - thank you!

I only have a day and a half. I googled - is this the museum you recommend?

if the weather is decent and you have the time, i highly recommend a picnic lunch in Maymont Park!

About ten years ago, I used to go to the Fox and Hounds pub a good bit. It is a very British pub with excellent food. Well, excellent British pub food, so maybe it is an acquired taste. From what I gather, it is still there.

I know you don't go for public BDSM, but if you want to see how the other half lives/plays, Fallout is a light industrial/fetishy club. Probably not your bag, but you're asking a question on a kinky sex board, so I figured I'd mention it as it is a place I hit occasionally. (and I need to get off my ass and pick up my new card from there)

the_pet is spot on talking about "the bottom" as a place to go. I can't give you specifics, as I haven't been there since before the flood in 04, so I don't know if any of the places that I liked are still open.

If you drive about 90 minutes south, I can take you to a great little restaurant that has some of the best she-crab soup you'll ever eat :D

ETA: Depending on what you are looking for insofar as history is concerned. Colonial Williamsburg is about 40 minutes south of Richmond. Yorktown isn't much farther beyond that. There's a wee bit of historical interest in this area of the country.

Does "the bottom" mean this?

Thanks for the invite, and the club info. Unfortunately, I won't be in kinky company, so that puts a damper on things.

I've been to Williamsburg, Jamestown, Yorktown, and Norfolk. I'm a big fan of the Tidewater area when it comes to touristy stuff.

That is what I am referring to when I say that. I assume the pet is too.

I understand that feeling all too well.

Well, if you ever come down this way, I'll give you a few ideas on places to eat.

How did you get there for less than 80,000 dollars?

Grrrr.

(refers everyone to the South Park episode where Mr. Garrison challenges the airlines)

Why eery?

It was all from the POV of The War of Northern Aggression, at least insofar as our tour guide saw it. I was, I dunno, 14 at the time, and it was the first time I had seen the Civil War talked about in such an unapologetic manner, from that POV, after years of Yankee teachings of the war. I remember it as being a little jarring.

Yep. It was trippy. I read they redid it though a few years back.

There's a hotel - The Jefferson. It's really nice inside.

Had the south won won would you be apologetic?

The only difference I see between the US and the Confederacy is one won their war for independence and the other lost.

And the winners get to write the history books.
