Alex’s friends had finally talked him into going out to a club again after a few months of moping around over his long time girl friend Jill broke up with him. He didn’t really want to go but he figured it was the only way to get the guys off his case. Besides, he figured a guy can only pout about it for so long before he has to get back out there and start looking again. He dressed in his usual attire

They got to the club and breezed right past the waiting line because his buddy John knew the owner and his name was basically permanently on the list. Alex thought about turning around the moment they walked in. The place was crowded and loud, but he decided to give it a couple of hours and just see what happened.

The bouncers inside brought them to a private table with a great view of the entire club. There were several that the owner always set aside for his friends. Alex thought to himself that John must have known him better than he originally thought. A waitress came to their table and took their drink orders. Alex debated between his usual rum and coke or if he should loosen up a little and go with the Jack. He decided to go with a Jack on the rocks. It usually kept him loose enough to have a good time, but was strong enough that he didn’t get to crazy because he drank the slow.

A couple of the guys were instantly on the dance floor, hitting on every hot girl in the place. Alex on the other hand just sat back and watched. People watching was one of his favorite ways to pass the time in a crowded place. He chatted with the guys as they came to the table to take a break or to get a drink. That was one big advantage to the private tables, they were set back enough that a fair amount of the noise was filtered out, but still had a good view of the club.

After about an hour, the owner came over to say hi, bought the table a round of drinks, and told all the guys that a friend of Johns was a friend of his and that anytime one of the private tables was open when they came in, it was theirs. Alex finished the drink and was about to tell the guys he was leaving. Then he saw her.

She was heading to the dance floor with some other girls. She was a vision. She immediately had Alex’s attention and kept it the entire time she was on the floor. After a couple of songs, she headed back to the table where her and her friends were sitting. He signaled for their waitress and told her to get the girl whatever she was drinking and to put it on his tab.

He couldn’t take his eyes off her. He watched as a couple of guys asked her to dance and got rejected. She seemed to be polite about it because the guys still walked away with a smile. He watched as the waitress brought her a drink and pointed towards Alex. He raised his glass with a smile, showing her he had bought it for her. She returned his smile and nodded politely, thanking him for it before taking a sip of it.

It had been months since Courtney had gone out. She had tried to tell her friends she just wasn’t ready but they pushed her. Finally she dropped her guard and agreed. She went through her closet looking for anything. Something that would be passable at the hot nightspot her friends frequented. Ending up with a simple red dress and black heels. She even opted to go without her bra due to the fact the dress was cut so low. She twirled in her bedroom looking herself over and smiled.

Then into the bathroom she went to add some curl to her long blonde hair. Soon soft ringlets fell around Courtney’s face. She added some light blush and lip-gloss. She hadn’t ever been the type to wear tons of make up; her face didn’t really need it. She had been lucky to have what everyone always told her was classic beauty. Her blue eyes sparkled as she ran her hands down her dress.

“This is as good as I get,” she told herself.

Just as she walked from the bathroom her cell rang. It was her friend Jackie letting her know that they would be picking her butt up and so she better be ready to dance the night away and forget her troubles. Courtney only laughed as she hung up and made her way to the front door. Her friends really did have her best interest at heart, they just strange ways of showing it at times. They were always there though, whenever something happened as it had just a little over a month ago.

Leaving that thought behind she was determined to have fun. She grabbed her purse just as a honk sounded signaling the arrival of her dates. Closing the door she smiled and waved at them. They were the next best thing to having sisters. She opened the car door and got an earful about how it was about time and that she shouldn’t have waited so long.

“Yeah I know. Let’s just get this show moving now that my dancing shoes are on,” she said with laughter that had been missing in her voice.

They arrived and got in bypassing the line that was there. The little lighting that was there wasn’t all that bad. Courtney couldn’t make out too much but then again she wasn’t here to look at guys. She only wanted to enjoy a night out. They went to the bar and ordered a drink. Within moments men seemed to come from every direction. After shaking them off the girls moved to the dance floor.

Song after song played and Courtney moved her hips, dancing with her friends. Every so often telling a guy no as they tried to cut in. Jackie made a few comments to her but she just let them go. They all laughed and danced. It was turning out to be a great night when she decided to take a break. Sitting at their small table Courtney downed the last of her drink only to have a new one placed before her. The waitress pointed to a man on the far end of the room and said it was from him.

She couldn’t judge him to well but not wanting to be rude she smiled back at him and took a sip. Their eyes seeming to stay connected before Jen, another friend broke the spell. She sat in front of Courtney’s line of sight and began talking to her about a guy that she had met. Soon all had been nearly forgotten about the stranger that had ordered her the drink.

They moved back to the dance floor, moving around it to the beat of the music. She smiled at several men but took up none of them on a dance. Her body only moved to the rhythm of the music around her. That was until she stopped in front of him, the man that had sent her the drink. She couldn’t breathe, couldn’t think, and barely remembered to move. He took her hand and together they began dancing.

Alex’s heart skipped a little beat as she smiled, her smile was amazing. Their gaze held until it was blocked by her friend sitting between them. He was distracted for a moment by John asking him a question about the women in the club and Alex gave a simple reply. When he turned back to look at her, she was gone.

He scanned the club quickly, finding her on the floor again with her friends, dancing, rejecting the guys again and again. He decided to make his way to her and try to get her to dance with him, thinking that if she didn’t, he was heading home.

He walked to her and simply took her hand as she stopped in front of him. His eyes slowly drank I her beauty as he held her hand. Neither said a word, just simply smiled at each other. His smile continued as she started to dance with him, he was a little surprised after watching her deny the requests of all the others who had asked.

He couldn’t take his eyes off her through the first couple of songs, her face, her body, everything about her held him almost in a trance. The red dress she had on accented her blonde hair perfectly. The low cut of it showing just enough of her to make him want more. He knew on the spot he wanted to know more about her, as a person more than as a beauty.

Suddenly a slower song started to play. He looked into her eyes, the volume still to loud for words, so he relied on the look on her face and gently drew her to him, his breath catching slightly as her arm went around his back, softly pressing her body into his. Not overly seductively, just enough for him to be able to feel the curves of her body as they occasionally brushed against each other.

As the song went on, they gradually drew closer and closer to each other until they held each other close. He inhaled the fresh scent of her hair as his hand slowly and gently caressed her back. He moaned lightly as he realized she wasn’t wearing a bra and his mind started to try to imagine what the material of just her dress was hiding.

“My name’s Alex” he said as they swayed back and forth to the music, unsure if she heard him until she looked up at him and smiled as the song ended. “My names…. “ she said, but her voice was drowned out by the next song being played at an ear splitting volume. He was just leaning in so she could repeat it when her friends came up and grabbed her by the arm, dragging her off into the crowd.

He stood there feeling almost lost while he watched her get swallowed up by the crowd and disappear. He went back to the table and waited for her to reappear somewhere, anywhere, in the club, hoping to talk to her some more.

Courtney wasn’t sure what it was that man but she decided to dance with him. He was cute; his body was well taken care of. She loved a guy that worked out, took pride in keeping himself looking good. That wasn’t all of it though; there was just something about him. She couldn’t put her finger on it but knew somehow, some way she wanted to.

They danced, her body touching his ever so slightly, grinding against him as the beat increased. Several songs passed, as they moved, neither saying anything. Her hands moved on his shoulders, running along his chest, touching him just a little. Then the music changed, gone was hard beat. It was replaced with a soft sensual slow song.

They danced together, Courtney’s hands moving into the hair at the base of his neck. Her body moved closer to his as they swayed. Soon enough she was against him, her head on his shoulder as they moved. She could feel his breath near her ear, just the slightest of it touching her, causing little hairs on her arms to stand up.

“My name’s Alex” he said.

Courtney began to tell him her name but the music started again. They tried again, this time leaning in closer so that he would be sure to hear. Then one of her girlfriends pulled her away. She waved to Alex, thanking him for the dance and moved with her. She really hoped to find him again before she left for the night.
Jen pulled off towards the corner. She was all excited for Court, happy that she had taken an interest in someone there at the club. She also wanted to let her know how things we going with a guy she’d been telling her about. Girls were always that way. They ended up walking towards the bathroom. They got lost in the crowd and in doing so she lost track of Alex completely.

“So what’s up with you and that guy?”

“Nothing’s up, just dancing with him. You pulled me away before I could even get my name out.”

“Sorry, you two look cozy though.”

“I guess so. He just seems nice. We didn’t really talk.”

They moved back to their table, finding several of their friends already there and some even chatting with a few guys. Courtney looked around trying to spot the one she had been dancing with but couldn’t see him. Taking the last sip of her drink she told the gang she was headed back out to the floor. Her hopes were that somehow she’d find him again. There was just something there…

Alex stood and watched as her friend pulled her away. He wasn’t sure how long it took, but when she got swallowed up by the crowd, he realized he was standing alone on the dance floor, by himself, not moving and felt a bit embarrassed.

He went back to the table with the other guys and ordered another drink as he sat down. His friends started to grille him about the girl he was dancing with and Alex could only reply that they had danced, “Hell, I didn’t even get her name” he said a bit sheepishly as his friends kept ribbing him about her.

The conversation turned away from her and towards the usual guy stuff, cars, sports, women, the usual. By this time the club had filled and the table she had been at was no longer visible from their private table. Alex sipped his drink as they talked, his eyes continuing to scan the dance floor, looking for her. When he didn’t see her, he began to assume that her and some of her friends had left the club. “Well guys, I think I’m out of here.” He said as he stood, deciding he would come back to the club another night hoping to find her here again.

As he worked his way through the crowd, rejecting invitations to dance, he saw her again as she moved back to the dance floor by herself, leaving her friends at their table. He watched her as she moved on the floor, single guys moving in around her. She was doing her best to fend them off, although some were getting a little to friendly.

He worked his way through the crowd to her, her back towards him as he approached. Just as he got to her, she turned and bumped into him, his hands instinctively went to her hips to steady her as she stumbled slightly in her heels. Their eyes met and the smiles they had matched. There they were again, on a crowded dance floor with the music so loud there was no chance of a conversation.

As he looked into here eyes and they started to dance again, he felt something. Something he hadn’t felt in a long time. A desire, no a need. A need to know more about this beautiful woman that held his thoughts since he had first saw her walk into the club. He found himself hoping for a slow dance again so he could at least try to get her name.
