rhetorical questions...

Why is it that some 'members' of a family of poets cannot find it within their poetic soulful hearts to support and celebrate one another? Why is there such evident mean-spiritedness? Why do poets act out by anonymously voting down our respective poems for the sole purpose of effectively downgrading ratings?

Just as good, solid fair competition is healthy for the economy so is good, solid fair competition healthy for new poems. How is it that we can find it within our hearts and souls to pray for peace and harmony in the Mid-East and in Afghanistan when we cannot example peace and harmony within our family of poets?

What is a poet? Where does the heart of a poet reside? What is in the mind of a poet? What is the philosophy of a poet? In what direction does a poet's moral and ethical compass point? Do we as fellow poets espouse the truism that competition is good for the heart, mind, body and soul?

Perhaps others have like questions.

(These are all rhetorical questions.)
Why are these all rhetorical questions? (<--- rhetorical question)

Man Ray, did someone poop on your poem's score? Surely, you're not surprised? (<--- not rhetorical)

I know this thread isn't about this, but I just had to say that I was really surprised that the name giant dripping pussy wasn't taken.

Now... what do I do with my newly registered giant dripping pussy? (<--- rhetorical)

Now that is surprising!

Competition is inherent in Literotica’s option “Please Rate This Submission: 1 through 5 (best).”

The website’s criterion for a red ‘H’ further implies a sense of competition.

Poets accept that voting is optional and in fact some poets choose to disable the feature which shores up the perception of competition though of course it is understood that a vote cast is a vote of confidence.

Regardless, the issues at hand are the voting procedures/practices that can and do marginalize a poet…and where does a poet’s natural spirit of competition go in an uneven playing field?

If you know the votes are sometimes mean spirited then why do you care about your score? It's as ridiculous as saying it isn't fair that some kids are popular in high school. They are. Deal with it. If you don't you just end up bitter and frustrated.

If you care about your writing, poetry or otherwise, votes on literotica would mean nothing to you. Votes only become important if your value or self-worth as a writer is tied up in their arbitrary score. You are never going to be happy if that’s true, so why not let it go and use another scale to measure your success?

Is it? That's so odd. I thought that what is inherent in Literotica's option "Please Rate This Submission: 1 through 5 (best)" is that a vote cast should be cast on every poem with the option turned on and is a rating of 1 through 5. If it were a vote of confidence, there would only be the need of one rating available.

A poet's natural spirit of competition? What does poetry have to do with competition? :D

If it's a competitive sport, then I want protective gear!

M. Ray, try submitting your poetry to other sites. Sites less willing to take any poem that's submitted, like lit does. If they accept your poems, then that'll tell you more about your poetry than a lit rating. :)

Looks like the person(s) who didn't like me, wasn't as many as I thought. I'm having trouble dealing with that.

I really expected a good solid three, one for each crayon. :D

If they do it anonymously, how do you know they are poets? Do they leave little anonymous poems behind?

A vote of confidence lies within the parameters of Literotica’s range of 1 through 5.

Thank you all for your comments!

I want specially-designed poet track shoes with my number on them (it's number 5, for "best")
I just got my jersey and they put a 1 on it. Nice color though, like the sky or a river or a pair of balls. But that 1 kind of bothers me.

um get a giant absorbant towel to sit on?

:rushing to register that name:

Well literotica does not have the market on competition in poetry. Something has happened to my fingers, I do not feel like writing it out, but you know. Contests. People getting jealous when such and such has a book deal that so and so wanted, poetry is not immune to the sting of human nature. Poets are not saints. Thank god. If a person is jealous and competitive about other things, why not poetry? I have the same rhetorical questions about anything in human nature. At least in poetry no one dies. I dont think so. Tzara, surely will be able to tell us of any historical battles over poetry.

I do not want a t-shirt or shoes. I want a babysitter and a drink.
and I want my husband to get a new hobby so I can get my night at home :)
I am a selfish selfish girl.
Althought one of those helmets sounds good even though I have no idea what it is.

Let's just not register anymore giant pussy names for the forum. If we do, we'll be leaving ourselves open for a giant twitching cock.
