This sounds like something out of the satire website The Onion but its the New York Times (paywall-free version):

Kennedy’s Alarming Prescription for Bird Flu on Poultry Farms

The health secretary has suggested allowing the virus to spread, so as to identify birds that may be immune. Such an experiment would be disastrous, scientists say.

Let the bird flu work its way through commercial chicken farms, quarantine the diseased birds, and breed the birds that have acquired "natural immunity". Voila! "immune flocks".
Cost efficient!
Letting the diseased birds die off 'naturally' prevents human involvement in handling sick birds and lessens the opportunity for humans to get infected! (Two people in America got sick this way, one illegal immigrant died in Louisiana shoveling dead birds without a respirator).

Meanwhile, real scientists are aghast. Allowing bird flu to spread unchecked is a fertile ground for incubating mutations of the existing bird flu.

As Secretary of HHS, RFK has no control over commercial livestock in America....but dimbulb Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins (who has NO agricultural experience, her experience is as a lawyer who worked with partisan Larry Kudlow filing election denier lawsuits in 2020) thinks this is a swell idea.

Just another day in Mr. Trump's Golden Age of White America.

lol, too fucking funny. So which chicken pissed off Trump?

Canadian 'chickens' and Mexican 'chickens' and Greenland 'chickens' and Panamanian 'chickens' and Palestinian 'chickens.' Also, some non-white 'merican 'chickens' of mixed breed are probably in the 'chicken mixture.'

I almost forgot to add the Europeans who told the felon that he could suck the infected egg he laid. They wouldn't send any of theirs to the US to lower egg prices either.

And lest we forget, all the corn farmers who would now have surplus feed due to the loss of those birds.

Our enemies could not do a better job of destroying America than the MAGAtards are doing all by themselves.

Letting populations die from disease and then counting the survivors is what we used to do before science was invented. It's literally the opposite of science.

After millions of egg-laying hens have died because of H5N1, and almost 1,000 herds of cattle have been affected by the virus, there's still an alarming lack of public awareness about the dangers.

Top virologists from over 40 nations are raising the alarm with an "urgent call to action" about the escalating danger of the H5N1 avian flu, which can cause symptoms like coughing, body aches, fatigue, and pneumonia in humans. They're calling on world leaders to implement various measures and apply lessons learned from the COVID crisis.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that there have been 70 confirmed cases of human bird flu and one fatality in the U.S. California has even declared a state of emergency due to the virus spreading among its dairy cows, affecting over 1,000 herds nationwide, most notably in California.

ignorance can be cured by education—but when that education by those with the scientific knowledge is restricted, even shut down, things get deadly:
A survey of 10,000 U.S. residents revealed that only 20% believed the virus impacted cattle, and just 25% thought it affected humans, according to the editorial. "The H5N1 virus is a real and present danger," the authors emphasized. However, they also noted that "pandemic fatigue continues to be a significant obstacle in managing new health threats."

"The virus's ability to infect both animals and humans, combined with recent genetic changes, underscores the importance of proactive surveillance and rapid response measures,"
Dr. Sten H. Vermund, chief medical officer of the GVN and dean of the USF Health College of Public Health at the University of South Florida, stated in a press release.
GVN experts expressed concern about the insufficient bird flu testing and monitoring, which are crucial for understanding the risks to public health.
