Rewriting the core Idea

Hi all,
I have a story that got rejected a while back (don't worry, none of those AI complaints.)
It was rejected based on dealing with religious \ political issues. Fair enough, I come here for escapism as well.

I never bothered to rewrite the story because the politics was at the core of the story.

Basically, I saw a picture of police in France asking a Muslim woman to remove her burka at the beach. That sent me down a rabbit hole of learning about French secularism, their laws regarding religious clothing, and how they came to be.

I thought it would be fun to write a speculative future story, where little by little, as believable as possible, nudism becomes a norm in France.

As you can imagine, it deals with a lot of hot topics like immigration, religion vs state, and multiculturalism. You know, all those things that people always talk about calmly and politely in the media and social networks. That is to say, I get completely why the story was rejected. I have no complaints on the matter.

However, it occurred to me that I can ask here for advice.
Can you imagine different forces that would, given enough time and creative freedom, make naked people on the street a mundane thing?

This is basically a creative thought exercise thread.
My best Idea so far was global warming and Europe's lack of air conditioning.

So you want to rewrite the core idea of a political/religious based story by....writing another story based on politics and religion?

My answer to this would be if that's what you want to write, go for it, but not here. There are other sites that I believe will accept it, this isn't one of them.

I'm going to go further by saying that any detailed discussion on these topics may get this thread either closed or moved to the politics thread.

Well then, it seems you think there is no way to rewrite the current story, fair enough. And I get that this might get banned here so I'll change the last part a bit. cheers :)

In speculative fiction you can make it so without dwelling a lot on the details of why, then just deal with the consequences. For a story on Lit, the consequences should be mostly erotic. The controversial background doesn't have to be part of the story.

How are your future French going to deal with the cold conditions of winter in Paris?

Do you think there is a way to write this story without being so politically charged?

I regret to inform you that global warming will not provide you with a non-politicized roundabout.
I don't think any other advice I might give would be helpful, though. I am quite certain one could write about nudism in France or anywhere else without involving politics and religion, but if you chose to approach the topic in that way in the first place, you probably want more realism in your erotica than I do.

If you want to go that way, you can leave out the other stuff. People grew up clothed, but are now compelled to change by forces beyond their beliefs or control.

On Ferengenar, women were forbidden to be clothed in public.

"The extreme sexism of Ferengi society is shown in early seasons of Deep Space Nine where Ferengi females are not permitted to earn profit, travel, or even wear clothing. "

Adapt your story to a similar world where humans immigrate there and are compelled to adapt to that custom. It does not have to be ST oriented, nor does it have to be off Earth.

If this site won't publish it because of police, find another site or even a publisher, It sounds like it should be read by the public. Is there a chance you could send it privately to those interested in reading it>

I feel like you can figure out a way to set it in a fantasy world without it being such an obvious allegory to our world that the alarms go off.

In fact, any story where a woman is forced to humiliate herself by stripping in public would probably do it. I could imagine a new virgin in the harem or new girl in the brothel situation, for example. Or a slave being auctioned. The non-con element might be tricky; I don't know the rules on that because I haven't tried to write those stories yet....

Set it in historical, pre-Christian Polynesia?

Or a future secular world somewhere very warm and a socially liberal where population growth means land can't be used for cotton/flax/wool production (as it's needed for food) so clothing is extremely expensive?

Just stay away from the current time and conditions about what's in the news today and you'll be fine. Topics like immigration, religion of any current type, multiculturalism, and global warming scream that you're writing about politics and not just writing an erotic story.

The past and the future don't scream politics. The past is pretty much settled history, but I'd stay away from certain religious references that are still in the news today. The future is anybody's guess as to what will happen.

I think there are many ways you could write a story with this concept that would pass muster here. The site does not absolutely forbid any stories that in any way touch on religious or political themes. I wrote a mom-son story that incorporated religious themes, but it did so in a playful, silly way. There was no religious agenda.

The one hangup I would have with your concept is the idea that nudity becomes "mundane." If it becomes mundane, then it's no longer fun!

A few thoughts:

France has a city/area, Cap D'Adge, with a large resort area that allows nudity all over. Imagine that it becomes bigger and becomes a movement.

Imagine a billionaire decides to create his own micro-state where everybody has to be naked. A respectable female reporter is doing a story on it but she has to be naked to do the story.

Or expand the concept to science fiction: a future where there are multiple planets, and one of them is all-nude.

In addition to all these ideas, you could also take what @THBGato said about pre-Christian Polynesia and run with it into an alternate history scenario where it industrializes independently and becomes a modern culture with nudity still being commonplace.
