Revising A Story?

Hello everyone. Thanks for the warm welcome back. I'm reposting a lot of my old stories before I get to my new ones, but I have a small dilema. My horror story, "Beyond Nocturne" is in the process of being turned into a novel and I'm wondering if I should post the newer (and much better version) to the site for peer consideration? I want to do it, but I don't know if I should. My writing style and abilities have grown since I did the story back in '04, and I'm dying to get some real critiques on it. Should the original short story stand on it's own with the new version posted separately? I appreciate any thoughts and feedback on this. Thanks! -Martin

2004 isn't that long ago. If you are rewriting the story it is worth leaving the original posted until the new version is completed. Seeing it will be a reminder that you need to finish the new.

Copyright might be an issue. If you leave the old version posted on Literotica, that can be the basis for the original copyright in case there is any dispute in future.

If you do post a completely new version, it might be an idea to edit the subtitle of the old version to tell readers that it is an old version.

For what it's worth, I have two versions of the same story posted. 'Karen', and 'Karen: The Rewrite'. It's interesting to compare votes, views and comments. Well, to me it is! As a matter of interest, 'Karen' has the highest total of votes of any of my stories, over 380k. The rewrite has a higher vote average. Might have something to do with it/them being in the Incest/Taboo category, perhaps . . .

Along the same lines....

I lost my hard drive and the backup of all my stories..... *sigh*

So I'm in the process of pulling up all my old backups and trying to recover as much as possible but i'll still be doing a lot of revising and rewriting along the way.... it should be interesting and hopefully better in the long run....

If post the new novel version as previously mentioned, with some kind of tag that indicates it is the rewrite, then would that sidestep infringing on my own copyright?

And don't forget to put a copyright note at the top.

There are plagiarist sites out there.
