I just heard about this, so if it's already been posted and discussed, sorry.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...and-bottle-teenager-gave-book-bad-review.html

Someone did a novel, posted it on line, got a bad review and the author of the novel tracked down the reviewer on the 'net and traveled 500 miles to Scotland where she was a shelf stacker in an Asda store (I think a huge supermarket chain) and hit her over the head with a wine bottle.

Hmmmm, too bad mr. anon who hates loving wives stories can't be tracked down lol.

Wow! Really! What a waste of a bottle of wine :D

Seriously, getting mad about a bad review is a little insane. Tracking down someone and attacking them for it is WAY insane.

Some obsevations.

1. It will be a surprise to many that an ASDA employee is capable of reading a book - any book.

2. ASDA is a wholly owned subsidiary of Waltons and services much the same demographic, but in the UK.

3. To be accepted as a contestant on Countdown you need to be exceptionally bright, to win it absolutely brilliant. And mad?

Hope that she is ok.

On the one hand, that's pretty crazy. But on the other hand, I'm glad that somewhere out there, someone has done what so many of us have fantasized about doing at some point or another.

Please tell me you're out of your mind. If there's a group of people who's prone to attracting the attention of crazies, it's authors of kink stories. You're celebrating the existence of the kind of mental whack-job who could be coming for you next. You realise Lit is one hack away from having a lot of Ip addresses and private correspondence released, right?

Yeah, tracking people down and trying to crack their skull over an *opinion*. Great stuff. And go jihadists go, since that's pretty much in the same category.

I hope the fellow with the wine bottle gets tried for attempted murder.

Ummm... Freedom of (her) speech figure in here anywhere? I know it's the UK we're talking about, not the US. Still, they have libel laws, but there's no mention that
she libeled him in any way. So yes, he sounds like a complete delusional nut job. And brilliance of the sort that wins those kinds of contests doesn't often translate into brilliance that moves the world forward in any way. It (probably) simply means he has an enviable memory.

Does this mean anyone with constructive criticism will be(come) afraid to post their opinion?

First very true. Non con incest lw....some serious haterw to those categories especially lw.

Very true we could be a hack away from a nut bag finding our real info....eventually as in hacking lit might only lead to email addresses but from there ...sure.

Last

Let them come it will seriously suck for them to find out I am crazier than they are and have more hate than they do.

ASDA. Formerly Associated Dairies.
Bought up/out by that American multi-outlet mob, I understand. (Wallmart?)
Their staff are no more dim than any other; they can be very helpful.

So that you get your required daily dose of useless information, ASDA is not an abbreviation of Associated Dairies but a combination of Asquith plus Dairies. The Asquith's were a family of Butchers from Leeds Yorkshire who started the supermarket business in the 50's and 60's. Waltons/Wallmart bought them out in 1999.

The threat is real enough that I delete PMs, link only to a gmail account that reveals nothing, and do not give out geographic info.

And even that isn't safe enough. I've given out my first name. At one point I mentioned the first name of a friend and a school she went to as part of an anecdote - turns out she was the only person there with that first name in the last few years. So someone looked her up, got her first and last name, searched her friends for people with my first name - and done. Luckily the person doing the digging was a friend and didn't have malicious intent. But lesson learned. I have a lot of friends named Alice and Bob now.

Most people are far less careful than I am. There have been more than a handful of times I got contacted by a fan via their gmail account. Word to the wise - when you type your first and last name into google's social networking, including gmail, it's made available to anyone you send email to. I usually have two questions for anyone emailing me: 1) are you over 18? and 2) did you realise you gave me your full name?

That's funny. It's been a long time since crazy or hate decided conflicts. I can handle a lunatic with a wine bottle, but there's no defense against the nut job with a gun.

So far no one's sent me a death threat, and only one commentator has suggested I'm a sociopath. But here in AH I've already had the joyous experience of being falsely accused of something that would have gotten me fired from my job; given the psychos right here, nothing will ever compel me to hand this site any personal information.

Anne Rice has been known to sic her fans on people who have the nerve to criticize her wussy wimpy whiny vampire novels.

I can handle the wine bottle-actually some guy totally freaked in work five years ago and attacked me and another guy with a four foot length of pipe.- and as for the guns...well I have quite a few of those.

I have gotten several death threats, but mostly threats of rape because it seems the 'real man' type of reader thinks I am female because I write female on top or just female as equal stories.

I was threatened by one guy that he and his three friends were going to come to RI and beat me, rape me to the point of death and then pour acid in my 'rancid cunt'

As I have said, there is some serious hate among the LW trolls here.

As for the hacking. I have heard some horror stories here about what can be done with PM's....I won't mention what else I've heard because it would just lead to the post being erased.
