As popular as betrayal stories seem to be here, they seem kind of incomplete for one important reason. They’re missing the best part of a betrayal story - good, old-fashioned revenge.

It goes like this - a somewhat naive, thoughtful guy who thinks the world of his girlfriend/fiancée/wife finds out she’s cheating. Not only is she cheating, but she’s doing it unrepentantly, even blaming the guy for being a wuss (or for being a workaholic, bad in bed, what have you.) In any case, rather than get down on himself; he decides, “I’ll show that bitch.”

So the next opportunity he gets, he seeks out a major upgrade over the cheating bitch - better in every conceivable way. The guy and the new woman end up becoming a couple, they become successful, and they rub their success and happiness in the bitch’s face. The bitch ends up ruined, pining for her ex while he pays her no mind at all.

Bonus points for humiliating the cheater somehow, like public exposure of her misdeeds.

Sounds like the end of a Grisham novel. It would possibly be an interesting zigzag, but typically in my stories, the new girlfriend or wife is at least loyal to the narrator even if she isn’t a saint otherwise. Good wins, but it’s a dirty, rough version of good with hardly perfect characters.
