It was finally the night of Lily's high school reunion,it had been 15 years since graduation.Some friends she still saw on a regular basis,others she hadn't heard from in years.Lily had taken care of herself,she hadn't changed at all in her looks.As she changed into her blue dress,which she took great care in picking out just for tonight.She took a final look in the full length mirror,thought"Damn,still looking good."There was one particular person,Lily was hoping to see tonight....someone special she hadn't seen in about 7 years since their breakup.

Brad wasn't workaholic and it had paid off for him. He was just promoted to General Manager of the local NFL team. He had been the star football player in high school and in college, but in his senior year in college he had blown out his knee. He still wanted to be involved in football, so, he changed his focus from the field to the front office. He had a keen eye for talent, and he also had a way about him that allowed him to deal well with the front office personnel from other teams. His rise had been meteoric.

Tonight he was doing something that he really wasn't crazy about doing. He was going to his high school reunion. He had not attended any of the previous ones, and didn't want to go to this one either, but his friend had convinced him to go. Tommy was the one person from high school he still stayed in touch with. They were best friends. Tommy and his wife Gail had bugged him to go, and he finally relented. His biggest hesitation was whether Lily would be there. They had gone out through high school and college, and even after, but it had ended, and it did not end pretty. He really did not want any drama tonight.

Lily looked at the clock and saw that it was still a little early,she decided to pour herself a glass of wine and go sit on the deck.Jessica and Alexis,her 2 best friends she had remained close with would be at the reunion tonight with their husbands.Lily's thoughts drifted to Brad,her high school sweetheart.They had started dating in their sophomore year,he was star of the football team and she a cheerleader.Lily wasn't popular in high school,but she was very well liked.She had a bubbly personality,a smile that lit up a room and a great body.They dated all through high school and college and after college as well,Brad was her first love.... Possibly the love of her life and she had pushed him away.

Brad got out of the shower and dressed for the reunion. He changed his mind about wearing a suit. That would make him appear too stuffy. He put on a pair of khakis with a white button down shirt with blue stripes. He finished it off with a nave blue sport coat. He went into the living room to wait for his ride. Tommy had insisted on driving. Brad was convinced that tommy insisted on driving because he wasn't convinced that brad would go if he didn't pick him up.

Brad heard the beep of the horn, and he headed outside. Tommy and Gail were waiting for him. Brad climbed into the back seat and they were off. Brad wasn't still not happy about this but he was just going to deal with it. When they arrived, they were one of the first ones there. That was awesome, thought Brad. They went in and signed in. Brad said hello to a couple of people he hadn't seen since graduation, and then headed off to the bar. Get the first drink down and relax.

Just as Lily finished her glass of wine,the doorbell rang.It was Jessica,she was kind enough to drive Lily to the reunion tonight.Lily grabbed her purse and keys and walked out with Jessica.On the way way to the reunion Lily was feeling a bit nervous.Jessica turned around and said"You look amazing,Lily"I don't know if you knew or not but I heard that Brad was going to be there tonight"
A few moment later they arrived at the restaurant where the reunion was being held.After signing in,they ran into a few people they hadn't seen since graduation.Jessica gave her things to her husband and he went off to find their table while her and Lily went to look for the bar.

Brad had a shot of tequila, and there ordered a margarita on the rocks with salt. He stood there chatting with the bartender. She was quite attractive and he flirted with her a little. He asked her to have a drink with him but she declined saying that it was against the rules and she could get in trouble.

As the bartender waited on a couple of other people, brad turned around and faced the room. He saw tommy and Gail talking with a bunch of new arrivals. He watched as the people started to stream in, and then he saw her. Brad saw Lily making her way toward the bar with Jessica. Brad wasn't sure he was ready for this, but he didn't seem to have any choice.

As Lily and Jessica made their way to the bar,they were talking and laughing.Lily looked up and noticed Brad's eyes on her.She stopped in her tracks,butterflies in her stomach.She hadn't seen those amazing blue eyes in almost 7 years,but yet they still seemed to have the same effect on her.She sighed and walked over to him "Hello Brad,Lily said with her best smile.

Brad watched the two women walk toward the bar. He knew that they had not seen him yet, and contemplated trying to sneak off without being seen. However, at that moment, Lily looked up and they made eye contact. He felt his shoulders sink just a bit. He wasn't sure how this would go. She had dumped him 7 years ago, and it had been ugly.

"Hi Lily how are you?" Then he looked over to Lily's friend. "Hey Jessica. Long time, no see. How are things." He was actually glad that Jessica was with Lily, because that reduced the chances that there would be any sort of confrontation. Brad had moved on from Lily...reluctantly at first. He wasn't sure whether Lily was still as mad as she was the last time they had seen one another.

The response Lily got from Brad was not what she had hoped for,but she only had herself to blame for that.She had the love of a good man for many years and she pushed him away.After Brad's football injury,things started to go downhill.She remained by his side and helped him not only with the physical pain,but with the emotional pain as well.At least that is until she received the news that would change everything.

Brad had the last encounter between them flashing through his head. He was trying to block it out, but he was unsuccessful. He looked at Lily. "I am surprised you are here. I didn't think you were into reliving the past. I know that I wasn't crazy about coming, but Tommy and Gail practically dragged me here. They even insisted on picking me up and driving me here."

Brad's words cut into Lily,hard.She could feel the tears sting her eyes,but did not let them fall.It took everything she had in her not to cry."Well,I wasn't really planning on coming either but Jessica and Alexis would not let up so I decided to come."They also drove me here,afraid that I would back out,"Lily knew this was not true,she had been looking forward to this night for months,as she sipped her Margarita.

"Still drinking margaritas I see. Some things never change. You better be careful with the tequila though. That is, if it still has the same effect on you as it used to have." He looked over Lily. She was still as beautiful and as sexy as she was when they were going out. There was no doubt he was hurt by her breaking up with him. He couldn't believe she had done it. "So, you married yet Lily?"

"Of course,there are still many things I still enjoy doing,Unfortunately yes tequila does still have the same effect on me,but I doubt I will be doing any shots of tequila tonight."As Lily took a sip of her drink she found her eyes looking over Brad.He was still as sexy as ever."No,Im not married,Lily said quietly"She could feel a tear roll down her cheek as a memory flashed through her mind.One she would never forget,it was the last day they spent together as a couple.

"There is nothing wrong with single life. I am enjoying it. Of course, work keeps me plenty busy, so, not a lot of time for the dating scene either." Brad thought he saw a tear in Lily's eye. He did not mean to upset her, and he certainly didn't want to see her crying. He decided that he was not going to bring anything up....especially their last time together. That would be painful.

Lily wiped her tear away and looked up at Brad "Work keeps me busy as well and when Im not working Im grading papers and making lesson plans at home."I really don't have time to date."Over the years Lily had replayed that last day together many times,it still haunted her to this day.There were times when she had wished she had just told Brad why she pushed him away,they had such big plans for their future,but unknown to him they were shattered on that same day.

To this day brad had no idea what had caused the breakup between them. He just knew that Lily said it was over. She said they needed to be apart. She told him she needed space and that she couldn't be with him anymore. He never knew what she meant. There was some yelling and screaming, but nothing was settled. He just moved on. He gave her what she wanted. "Damned work always gets in the way, doesn't it." He saw Jessica slipping away. Damn her.

Lily excused herself to go to the ladies room.Jessica walked over to the bar with her husband to get a refill on their drinks."Brad I know this isn't any of my business but you and Lily were once like family to me.There is a lot that you don't know that I think could ease your pain of your breakup.I know you still love her.Talk to her,I know she wants to set things straight with you after all this time,and to be completely honest being her best friend she still loves you too."

"Jessica, I appreciate what you are saying, and I know your intentions are good, but it has been seven years since I have seen her or talked to her. I don't know how you can say that she still loves me. In addition, I have moved on. I was broken-hearted when she dumped me, but that is way in the past." He turned to the bartender and ordered another drink and another shot. Right now he was pissed at Tommy for not having his back.

Lily returned to bar just in time to see Jessica and Brad exchanging words,neither one of them looked to happy.She saw Brad taking another shot of tequila as she just stood there watching him.She had never been able to forgive herself for breaking his heart,the only man she very truly loved.Lily muttered under her breath"Time for me to finally come clean with him,but not tonight"She got back to the bar and ordered another margarita."What was all that about",she asked Brad.

Brad looked over at Lily after he threw down his shot of tequila. "She told me that I was being mean to you and that wasn't right to do to someone who loved me. I reminded her that it was you that dumped me seven years ago and who I have not had any contact with since you kicked me to the curb. She didn't like my answer, so, her and hubby asked away." He took a big drink of his margarita.

As Lily listened to Brad explain what happened,she felt almost sick and her knees weaken.... And not in the good way.She grabbed onto the back of Brad's chair for support.With her other hand,she took her second margarita of the night and downed it in one gulp.The look in Brad's eyes was one she had long forgotten since that painful night 7 years ago.True she still loved Brad,she had never stopped.Lily thought she was doing the right thing when she pushed him away and hoped he would understand the reason behind it some day.

Brad saw Lily down her drink in one gulp. "You better be careful Lily. You know what happens when you drink too much tequila. At least what used to happen to you when you drank too much tequila. Jessica and hubby might have to carry you home." He wasn't sure what was going on, but Lily was obviously upset about something.

Lily finished her Margarita and ordered another one,she hadn't drank this in years.She looked into Brad's blue eyes and saiid "What do you care what happens to me?"Oh those blue eyes....what they did to her.Lily reached for her drink and lost her footing and found herself falling into Brad's arms.

Brad caught her as Lily fell into his arms. He helped her sit in the stool next to him. He was careful where he placed his hands. He did not want Lily to accuse him of trying something inappropriate. "You seem to forget it was you that didn't care Lily. You are the one that dumped me. You were the one who didn't care."

Lily could tell that the tequila was taking its effect on her.When Brad caught her,it made her tremble to feel his touch again.His words stung but he was right,before she knew it the tears started flowing."Brad,please I don't want to argue here"Please,can we go somewhere and talk?"Aside from being in love,we were also best friends as well,please just hear me out."
