Greetings, You have been invited to one of excentric millionare Edgar Steeles' exclusive week-long "happenings" at his east coast mansion. Enclosed within your invitation is a colour coded key to your room wich you will be sharing with a roomate that your host dearly hopes you will "get along well with". As usual no change of clothing is required as you will find a personalized exquisite bath-robe matching the color motiff of your room.

ooc: Anyone is free to join in on this thread, the long bedroom hallway on the uppermost floor has rooms in R.O.Y.G.B.I.V., and black for your semi-reclusive host. In the occurence of a plot snag or anything else that hinders the game it will be delt with instory by a call from Edgar over the mansions extensive intercom system. Edgar's role is primarily to observe and help facilitate his guets' enjoyment. If you need to interact with him directly simply ring for the butler and you will resive an audience if so warrented.

O.K. So start posting and have fun!

Please feel free to begin

ooc: the butler will gladly show you to your room and edgar can step into things if the players don't get a roommate quickly.

Elizabeth got out of the door opened for her by the chauffeur and sent him inside the great house in search of direction. She needed some fresh air and time to readjust before being thrown into the bustle of a house party.

She smoothed out the skirt of her linen suit and adjusted the collar of the jacket. The pale light blouse beneath was equally immaculate. Her all but translucent stockings led down her shapely legs to her cream shoes. The heels and leather straps cacooned her foot in perfect comfort. Shoes, clothes all made to measure; For Lady Elizabeth Mannington-Brown, nothing else would do!

Lady Elizabeth took off her sunglasses and looked up at the magnificent house. Classy, even by her standards she had to admit. Shading her eyes under her widebrimmed hat, she scanned the grounds. Hearing voices coming from the house, she replaced her sunglasses before turning unhurriedly to see who was approaching....

I had received from strange invitations, but this one might take the cake. An envelope with a date place and a key. I didn't have anything else to do that week and I was to say the least intrigued. So I cancelled all my appointments and headed to the address, which turned out to be Edgar Steeles mansion. Never met the man, but I'd heard stories.

Knocking on the door I was let in and saw two ladies sitting in the den, looking as bewildered as I am sure I did.

"Hello, I'm Bret Bryan."

OOC:

Bret Bryan, attorney, entrepenuer, financier, but never any of those things on a dailey 9-5 basis.

40 years old likes good vodka, cigars and beautiful women and not in that order.

Evette Grand

Opening the envelope as I sat waiting in the parlor, I pulled out a bright blue key. Wondering what it was for, I slipped it back inside and checked out the mansion. It was large and reeked of wealth. One of father's friends or something. I wasn't quite sure why i was invited here, but I was taking this opportunity to explore and write something new.
Perhaps this weekend would prove to be more than just a snooze? Never could tell.
I smiled at the new comers. One lady, deffinately could tell by her attire and mannerisms. And one guy I couldn't quite peg just yet. But I was good at reading people, and soon I would know a little more of each. Taking out a pen and paper I made notes about what I seen and felt.

Bret Bryan

Well, at leasst the two ladies are pretty. What would Edgar Steele want with me. Was this someone's idea of a joke? Who could have invited me. And what is the significance of the blue key? Although it is not my best virtue, I guess I will just have to be patient.

"I think I will help myself to the bar. Can I get anyone else anything."

Evette

Smiling, I shook my head no.
"Sorry but I dont drink anything but juice milk and ice water.." Sitting back I remained silent as I waited for guests and host to arrive.
I introduced myself to the woman across from me and to the gentleman getting the drinks, hoping none really knew who my father was. last thing I needed was someone treating me differently becuase of that man.
Smiling as friendly as possible but feeling a little scared of new surroundings and new people, it was kind of forced.

Bret Bryan

"Sorry I don't drink anything but juice, milk and water," said the woman who introduced herself as Evette Grand.

"I hope you don't mind, then, I made you an ice water. I hate to drink alone. I don't mean to pry, but i noticed you making some notes. I was just wondering what you were writing and whether you know what is going on."

Lady Elizabeth Mannington-Brown

She sat in the room watching the other two guests who seemed to be chatting away amicably enough, getting to know each other..as was usual on these occasions. Personally she could do without all the friendly chit-chats.

She crossed her legs impatiently sipping a dry white wine..fine chablis she thought approvingly. The envelope with the invitation was tucked away in her handbag. A red key! Such a brash colour. She sighed again, wishing that she smoked... but of course she didn't. It was at tines like these she missed dear Henry. He would know what to do and say and would certainly not be sat about like this without an idea of what was going on.

She sipped her wine once more and tried to quell the feeling of irritation. Even if her host did not have the manners to greet her when she arrived, she would not allow herself to behave as rudely.

She smiled over at the other two people, hopefully communicating warmth, but not enough to stimulate a need to exchange life stories.

Bret Bryan

The other woman in the room was clearly annoyed at being kept waiting. It was obvious she was not used to it. She seemed familiar. I heard her accent when she asked for her wine. She seems remarkably familiar, but from where. Ah yes.

"Excuse me. I apologize in advance if I at all offend you, but aren't you Lady Elizabeth Mannington-Brown? I believe I met your husband last year at Ascot. Is he here?"

She was obviously surprised at being recognized here.

"I am Bret Bryan. I don't think we actually met that day."

Suddenly

You hear the pop of the intercom system turning on. "Greetings!" came a deep, honeyd voice with just a hint of an some unplacable accent. "I trust you are all comfortable and getting along smashingly." Anyone persisting in an attempt to glean any clue regarding the owner of the voice beond the fact that it was there host would confound themselves into a vaugly hypnotic state. "Dinner will be served precisly at twenty three hours, you will i hope excuse me for my habit of eating late. Please make yourselves comfortable until then. I await seeing you all this evening.

****************************************************
Arriving in her silver-colored limo, reading the invitation over again.

Pulling out the small green key. And looking out the window. She had placed her brother in the care of a family friend, to take a vacation.

This had presented a great opertunity, Though she was going to be late. The office and school had held her up.

As her driver pulled up to the door and stopped she put everything back in it's place. As the door was opened I thanks Mike and he nodded, got my purse and handed it to me. 'Have a good vacation, Jese'

Nodding and letting him hand me my purse, I walk up the stairs to the door and ring the bell.

Lady Elizabeth Mannington-Brown

Elizabeth turned as she heard the man speaking to her. She ran her eyes over him with renewed interest... Bret Bryan... she had heard the name, but had certainly never met him. She wondered fleetingly how he could have recognised her.

The voice over the intercom prevented her from answering.

23:00 indeed!
..and what were they supposed to do til then.

She hid her annoyance and turned back to the man had addressed her.

"I'm so sorry, Mr Bryan. I'm very pleased to meet you,"
She smiled charmingly and extended her hand gracefully.

"Your name seems familiar, but I'm afraid I've never made your acquaintance. I don't think Henry mentionned metting you at Ascot last year. Have you known my husband long?"

Bret Bryan

"It's Bret, please Lady Elizabeth," I said admiring her well-toned and shapely figure. "As I said I had the good fortune to meet your husband last year at Ascot when a mutual friend introduced us. Since that time I have spoken with your husband on several occasions. He sought me out to assist in making a connection here in the United States and I was only too pleased to be of service to him. He graciously offered to return the favor, but unfortunately I haven't had the oppurtunity to call upon him generousity or to meet with him again. I do look forward to meeting him again. He seems like a very engaging man."

As I spoke with Lady ELizabeth I noticed that the woman I brought water to continmued to make notes and that another woman entered the room.

"If dinner isn't until 11:00 p.m., what are we supposed to do until then?" I asked of no one in particular, and really not expecting a response.

Evette

I smiled, and thanked Bret for the water and made more notes. "Dinner at eleven? Well shouldn't someone at least show us to our rooms to settle in and refresh?" I stood up, intending on finding the bulter or someone to assist us.
I was not going to hang out in the parlor all damned night waiting.
I seen a young man carrying in the baggage for the newest addition to the house and smiled at him. Asking him in a hushed tone about seeing us to our rooms, so that we may relax and refresh before dinner was served. He nodded his head and left to speak with his boss.
Walking over to the chair I just vacated, I sat back down and put my notebook away for the time being.

Lady Elizabeth Mannington-Brown

She listened at the man explained his connection with her husband. She thought it strange. Surely Henry would have mentionned him, even in passing...

She hid a frown at his invitation to use his first name. Americans were so... familiar....

"My husband is indeed... most.. engaging... " she concurred.

Noticing Mr Bryan turn away she sipped moved away once more, looking for a member of staff to show her to her room.

"If dinner isn't until 11:00 p.m., what are we supposed to do until then?"
Her thougths exactly!

Bret Bryan

Surely I can find something to do to occupy my time until 11:00 when dinner is served and maybe we get an explanation of this happening we have been invited to. I certainly am not so presumptious as to explore the house without an invitation to, but the grounds seem fair game and it is a nice afternoon.

"I am going outside, would anyone care to join me until we figure out what is going on here?" I hoped that i wouldn't be wandering around alone, but hadn't gotten the feeling anyone was the least bit intersted in joining me.

Evette

I smiled up at Mr Bryan. "I would join you, just lead the way.." i stood up and left my things behind, walking out to the foyer. I hadn't seen much of this place yet, but it was rude to poke around uninvited in someone else's house. Her father had taught her manners.
"Where to?" I glanced up at him for the first time, man he was taller than me by almost a foot! trying to be friendly and not my normal bitchy self, I shuddered a little. Hoping to god that my new shoes didn't get too dirty.

Jeselynn Margerite Phimmes

The door enters and a tall man in a suit opened the door. 'Greetings ma'dam'

Smiling I bowed my head and he let me in.
Leading me to the main hall I can hear other people.
I hear a voice over the speaker say 'dinner will be at 23:00 hours'

muttering to myself 'just like home.'

'Lady Jeselynn Margerite Phimmes' the man says. 'I shall return with ordurves'

Walking over to the bar and looking in the cold cabinet, I find the coolers. Grabbing a Mixer cup i ask ' anyone want one?'

Looking at the people, the women are very beautiful, the man very gourgous.

Bret

"Where to?"

"I am not sure. I feel a bit awkward just wandering about without an invitation, but I suppose we can go out the front door and see where that leads us. I think we should stick to the paved ways, however, I wouldn't want you to get those new shoes dirty." I only noticed the shoes because they were at the end of some very nice legs. Although she was quite a bit shorter than me her legs appeared to be long and lithe. I tried to gues her age and figured late 20's, not such a big difference these days.

"So Evette, how do you come to be invited to this party? I haven't figured out how I got here yet, but knowing your connection might help me. All I got was an invitation and a blue key. A key to what I don't know."

Evette

I walked along on the sidewalk with him, smiling that he noticed my shoes were new. How amusing.
I startled a little, "A blue key? I have one too, and the Lady you were talking to I think had a red one. I am not to certain what they are for though." I fell silent a moment, thinking. Then answered his questions.
"Well my Father owns a very large corporation, with many towers all over the world. I assumed I was invited because Daddy is a business associate? A corporate lawyer who worked his way up to owning and running several around the world.. Not sure the connection just yet. Maybe it has to do with money and having a sinful amount of it? But why Daddy wasn't invited and I was is another matter entirely. how about you Mr Bryan?" I stopped near what looked like a maze with high hedges and faced him.

Bret

"...How about you Mr. Bryan?"

"Please, it's Bret. You make me feel so old and I really am not that much older than you I hope. This gray hair is from too much stress and not from age I assure you," I said with a laugh. "I don't know why I am here or how I was invited. I have been involved in some business transactions that Mr. Steele has also been involved in, but I've never met the man. Perhaps he wants to meet me after doing business with me. As for sinful amounts of money, I have plenty, but I don't think it's enough to consider sinful. Maybe the ways I earned it is or maybe the things I like to with it is."

As we stood there I noticed her eyes. Very intriguing. There was something about them. She gave off an air of privilege, but there was something fiercely independent about her eyes. Something that said I am more than my Daddy's spoiled daughter.

"So do work or just enjoy life?"

evette

Curious why we were all here, I still held my tongue. Not prying into his life as was my journalistic nature.
"I am a writer. Colums, reports, underground papers. That sort of thing. I just write whatever comes to mind and sell it to who wants it. Some I just give away. Eases the boredom and gives me something creative to do and a new adventure every week." I moved into the maze a little ways, not wanting to get lost.
"No, I doubt you are much older than I am. But manners was taught to me. Call me Eve and I will use Bret? Deal?" I smiled and held out my hand to shake his.
"I was thinking I was here to write about this secretive gathering. I heard it's done yearly. Only not certain about why and reasons for guests and that guest list. Though I am sure I will find out."

Bret

Taking the hand she offered i said "Eve, it is then." As we shook hands I kept looking into her eyes and she did not look away, not did she immediately pull back her hand. She had moved a short way into the maze of hedges. Was she adventurous, bold? I guess I would find out as we malked in.

"Well, I have never been invited here before. If you write about this weekend just be sure to change the names to protect the guilty, if I need it. And if I am innocent, I don't want my name used either. I have a reputation to preserve you know."
