Hey, patrons and matrons. A question from this not-very-resident member: Once upon as time, a bazillion years ago, there was a story. I wrote it and put it here on Lit, just to see if I had what it takes to be a pornster. With an 'e' not an 'a'. It did pretty well, got awarded a sizzling red H and a bunch of favorable comments and emails. And after a week, it took the natural course and fell into Lit obscurity like so many others.

Until yesterday, when I got three feedback emails. And today, when I got two more so far. Which is more than I ever got back when I posted it.

Is there something going on with the site, pushing old stories back into the limelight? Not that I'm complaining. I just found it a little odd.

Wow. That page is like a swarm of porn words, jumping out from the page to get me. I am a little bit scared and strangely aroused.

But I can't remember ever writing any tags. I just chose a category, and that was it. Does Lit give stories other labels automatically?

It seems to be a new engine Manu has worked up. Only one of my stories has been tagged and it's the oldest. Perhaps the engine is working its way up from the depths of the archives.

Cool. I'd like to know how the tagging thing works too
FRom what I can see, the story tag engine is scanning every story on the site and indexing words and phrases from the stories as search keywords.

My very first story School Girl Blackmail has collected the following tags at the bottom of the story:

Story Tags For This Submission (beta):

greasy finger - city council - police chief - cotton blouse - grade school - igor - hole fuck - laughed aloud - herman - deep bowels

None of them have much to do with the actual story except "Igor" and "Herman" and "deep bowels" (although I don't recall using that particular description as written.) "Grade School" is probably misleading, but the diminuative main character does deliberately dress to look like a grade-schooler although she doesn't act like a grade-schooler.

Each of my other stories has collected similar random words and phrases as "keywords" -- presumably they're not actually random but are words and phrases found in more than one (or two) story.

Has this got anything to do with the tags/keywords that we are offered to add on our own? The ones that were randomly generated at one time, and contain such goofy word combinations that no one in their right mind would be looking for them? The ones that you can't change even though the blue type asks you to, and when you do, nothing happens?

Character names for "monstrous" thugs/rapists. :p I'm surpirised it didn't pick up "Lurch" as well -- although it probably classed that one as verb instead of a name.
Lurch as a porn verb has potential.

Potential for what, I'm not really sure.

Shouldn't the tags be spelled correctly?

There's one under single story tags:

maniopulation.

huh? unless that's a foreign spelling???
