How many of you take the time to go out into nature and remember what real life is like? I know Myst does, Desert Amazon, and several others do too, but we've got a lot of new members lately, so I thought I'd ask, well, since I don't know about you.

I doubt anyone gives a rats ass, but I went out of town this weekend and hit the woods and took a lot of pictures. I have strong need to be in nature as much as possible, and that is why I am so into Biology, and Horticulture. I feel I must work with nature, and/or be in nature as much as possible, or I feel as though I am going to suffocate.

I hadn't been out to the forests of Ohio all summer, so I really had to get out this weekend....
1. To fullfill my inner needs.
2. To take photos for a film I am making
3. To get a good idea of how far along the annual asorbic absizing of the leaves, from their trees, has come (not that far, but it's started, and I'll have to be out a lot now to get great film and photos for my movie)
4. Because I got to spend time with two of my greatest friends who I hadn't seen in months and it was so heart warming to be with them.

I will be posting these pics here, but I really want to know if you get 'out there' and if so, what do you seek, learn, gain in sanity, and cherish from your experiances in Nature.

Please share pics if you have them too.

I know this is just driftwood (I happen to get off on driftwood), but there was no tree or stump in sight. This must have fallen a long time ago.

All you can see here is natures way of making the woodegde beautiful..... a mix of Goldenrod and purple Asters.

I didn't get any animal shots, because for some reason the only animals I see lately have been hit by cars. :(
Being on the forest floor doesn't lend to bird viewing much, unless you can spend a long time in one spot, and when you are with friends, that isn't really cool to inflict upon them.

Breath in..... Breath out.....

I've only been back home since 11 pm last night, and I already miss being out there. I am going to be okay though, because for three hours on Tuesday I'll be back out in the woods, and then this coming weekend it going to be smashing.

This is an example of Nature's drive to succeed.
This is a completely fallen tree that has lived and it's side brances are becoming full grown tree trunks. I have a more mature example of this, but it has my friends pic in it, and I have to blur him out.

Anyway, this concept is a bonsai challenge I'd like to take someday. It requires long term 'breaking' of the trunk to insure that no part of the roots are damaged so the tree can survive.
(very hard to pull off)

This is my friend sitting in a cool nook where a tree limb cracked and fell but the stem suvived and created a solid, yet funkie shaped trunk extension off the base of the tree. This tree appeared healthy and surviving well with it's top growth.

I love trees that grow out over water. This is just damn purty. (like Muffie's ass)

Being in nature is remembering to be human. It is the only place where I can experience absolute freedom, security, acceptance, and pleasure. Here is a picture on one of my "places". Enjoy the magic!

Thank you for sharing Salinaoaks.

You have different nature there in North Cali than I do here in Ohio, and I love the variations of nature. Thank you again. Lovly waters.

This is my favorite pic of the weekend.
My favorite person, with my favorite dog shimmering in light on water.

What more could I want?

very nice pictures.

I go out in the great outdoors alot.
I love the peace and serenity that is calming to the soul.

starfish/nature

Your's is the best post I've seen on this forum so far. Nature is the greatest teacher as well as being calming and inspirational. I haven't been anywhere
very far removed from civilization in a while but I soar in the clouds almost everyday.

IF you want nature , try Wales.
(Let's face it there's sod all else in Wales.)

I grew up in the mountains. My dear old dad was a Forest Ranger and I come from a long line of outdoorsmen . I went today to one of my favorite places. I have posted about this particular place before when describing sensuality beyond the scope of sex.

However, my place is a pristine lake surrounded on two sides by rock cliffs. When I am there, I am reminded that I am part of something much bigger than my little day to day universe. I feel at peace and yes, laugh if you will, I feel embraced by nature.

At my lowest points, I seek out my place for comfort. Any other time, this place not only provides comfort, but great joy. To take in the musky aroma of the fallen leaves on a cool autumn day and listen to the geese as their perfect "V" travels to warmer climes and wonder if there is a bear readying itself for hibernation reminds me of the beautiful synchronicity that is ordained by nature.

Whew! Starfish-------great thread and I love your photos!

:)

those are lovely pictures starfish i love walking through the woods and it's nice walking my dog too the ones nearby ... lisa would be mad if i went there alone but having a german shepherd to protect me is handy (even if he is a big softy)

theres one wood thats nearby and the woodland floor is covered in about a million blue bells im not exaggerating its quite far away too and off in a different way people normally go ... so its my secret wood :) ... i hate when i see other people there because i know they've discovered it too :)

Wow

From someone who loves hiking and all outdoor activities, those pictures are wonderful. About 3 miles from here is a hidden waterfall. I came upon it during one of my hikes. It is buried deep in the woods, and I sit on top of it and just take in the nature, and the smells, and the sounds. I spent my life growing up, hiding out in the woods, building treehouses. Thanks for the pictures. They were all great.

LOL.
Oh my!
My Celtic blood comes from being Welsh, but I've never been to Wales. That photo is so magnificant. I love it. I may have to make it there within my lifetime.

xwizard4, thumbs2ca, thank you for sharing your thoughts. It is important to always get out in nature to renew the spirit if you can't, and it is a blessing to be able to be out in it all of the time. :)

sexygirl, I believe you about the bluebells. Many times plants establish amazing colonies of it's species. I am going to hunt for pics that arn't mine, after mine are posted, that show some of my favorites that do that.

Nessus, those are great photos. Where is Gippsland? Are you from New Zealand? Sorry if I am wrong, but I don't get to spend that much time at lit, and I don't get to read here very much either, anymore.

Simplyme, I am jealous. I love waterfalls. I wish I could live near the woods that were big and had secret places but I live in farmland USA. We have area wooded places, but they are all metroparks. One of the parks though, is huge and has back trails, and is just amazing. Boz and I can hike a whole day in there. I have yet to do it because of my health problem, but I am going to be in much better shape now that I am allergy free, and am trying to do all healthy things. Thank you for sharing and enjoying God's gifts.

MissTaken, Thank you for explaining what you get out of your special place. I took this pic this weekend. You made me think of it. :D

Nothing laughable about connecting to nature. It really makes us whole when we do.

This tree has seen finer days, but I think it is amazing what life stems from death. It is great.

Thanks DA. You're right about having to get out in it. I got confined here this summer but I am doing better, and now I want to make up for it. :)
