Saxophonist Clarence Clemons dies:

NEW YORK – Clarence Clemons, the larger-than-life saxophone player for the E Street Band who was one of the key influences in Bruce Springsteen's life and music through four decades, has died. He was 69.

Clemons died Saturday night after being hospitalized about a week ago following a stroke at his home in Singer Island, Fla.

Full story here.

Clarence was the only non guitar playing member of a band that I can really remember getting a lot of notoriety and the image of him on stage next to Springsteen was one of those visuals that to me always exlempified good old fashioned rock and roll.

R.I.P. Big man

I got to see him, and the E-Street Band and all, some years ago in Washington, DC. And well, he was always just fun. Looked like he loved what he did. Sigh.

This was truly sad news. I was lucky enough to see Clarence twice during the Born in the USA tour, before the E Street Band left the states and after they returned. Those three and a half hour shows almost did me in, but Bruce and the boys rocked my socks off. I will miss Big Man's immense spirit.
