When someone leaves a response with an email address do you respond at all?

I was just thinking of saying "Thank you" regardless if it's positive or negative.

I do, on those rare occasions when it happens. Usually if someone emails me it's some bizarre rant about how I'm doomed to Hell or something. I don't figure a person like that actually wants a response.

All the more reason to reply!!

If they take the time to send feedback with their e-mail address, I reply. And with more than a simple thank you. I believe that is one way an author gains loyal fans.

Most of the Emails I get are just people telling me to write another story and I don't respond to those because they are usually anonymous. But sometimes I'll get complimentary ones and I'll write them back to ask what elements of my story they liked. They Always respond with some pretty useful information.

I reply to all email that isn't anonymous, be it positive or negative. If they took the time to read my story and write me, it's the least I can do in return. My life isn't so busy I can't take a minute to reply.

Yes, I always reply to readers who take the time to respond and post.....most of my correspondence is via PM, though, and that's very gratifying if someone responds...

As much as humanly possible, definitely if they have given useful advice.

I used to score excellent stories and ignore the others. Likewise I sent compliments to the best writers, but none of them, as yet, have the good manners to reply. So I dont send emails anymore. If your wares are superior I ignore them just as I do the meatheads.

I alwasys say something like, "Fucking wasted your time didn't ya? Now piss off and go read something worthwhile." haha :D

Until the "recent activity" feature was activated, I was often not aware when I received PCs on my stories because I have so many posted.

I know I've failed to reply to some emailed feedback but my Og email account was the subject, for months, of a prolonged phishing attack that sent me hundreds of apparently genuine emails a day and overloaded the account. I had to delete everything each day just to keep the account operational. The "phishing" wanted me to send personal details so that the attacks would stop...

Apologies to anyone who sent me feedback and I didn't reply.

Og

I used to, even just to say thank you. I thought it polite and everyone who responded was polite. I've nothing bad to say about responding to fans, which has always been a good experience for me. I did try to respond to bad feedback people ... I asked questions in response, but never heard back from any of them ... so ... that's my experience. :rose:

My response to "anonymous" on the third chapter of my latest story:

Why didn't you read the title, the description and the category before sending your feedback?

Your response shows that you wouldn't have liked any of the series no matter how well written.

Next time, please think before opening a story that you know you'll hate.

Or are you too stupid?

Og

I always answer them. I even chat with them. It leaves them shocked that there are real people here writing these stories. Mistress Lynn is right. You pick up fans along the way. I have even responded to anonymous public comments by leaving another public comment refering to their comment. I don't hear back from those. Honestly, everyone's been quite nice and helpful to me.

I have always answered Emails sent to me, regardless of their nature. Just the fact of acknowledging them, some readers have not only apologized for making a bad comment, but added me or my story to their fave lists.
As Og mentioned, the new recent activity selection allows me to go back up to 30 days and see what people have said in comments or have favourited me or a story. If I see I've been faved by someone, I'll take the time to write and thank them.
To date, 28 people are always waiting for my next release, because of my responses to their mailings. A good fan base is far better than scores and 'H's, it's an honest representation of how people really like your writing.

I always reply to emails if they're not anonymous and have had some good give and take. Then again, I don't have great volume.

I always send a polite "thank you" to anyone who comments and leaves and email address. If they have questions or suggestion, I answer as best I can.

When one compares the number of reads to the number of votes, and then the number of comments, people who take the time to write, are special.

Some of them are strange, but most are very nice.

That would depend on whether you want them to have your email address or not.

When a lit reader sends you an anon feedback, that means that you are the anonymous one. The feedback page does not show your email address, and the sender has no way to find it. If you respond, though-- then they do.

Just an FYI. :)

Which is why some us have Lit email addy's. My private feedback folks get stuff from driphoneyatgmaildotcom, and I sign it just like that, too, well, "driphoney". It's common, but you do need to think about it.

Gmail has really changed some things, for sure!

My email for Lit is different than the ones for family and friends. I also have one for online places that ask for an address to send newsletters and "special" offers (spam). I think I have four total.

You can be anonymous on yahoo and hotmail, too, I guess. I just wanted something very separate from my RL, didn't want any goofy mistakes, you know forwarding kinking replies from men to my mom ... that sort of thing! :D

Og has two email accounts as oggbashan, one as Jeanne D'Artois and another as Fag-Ash Lil.

There is no way they can be confused with my personal email, nor my political-activist email accounts.

However I am vulnerable to someone seriously looking to find the real identity of oggbashan, but what does that really matter? In real life I dress up as Henry VIII, I don't have an employer and haven't had one for over a decade, I'm known for being a writer of slightly risqué prose - so finding out my real identity wouldn't be more than a short-lived embarrassment.

Og

PS. I also have junk email addresses for those advertisers who insist that I can't order their product without giving an email address. I can see, and even read if I want to, anything sent to those addresses, but most are filtered straight into the spam can.
