If -- which is a big if -- the technology of a strong neural-electronic interface should prove possible, then something along the lines of the Borg Collective is the inevitable future of humanity. We won't really be able to point to any point when it starts -- it will simply evolve gradually from connecting brains to the Internet. That's the Singularity.

Things are drifting in that direction already. In Nineteen Eighty-Four, George Orwell depicted a surveillance state with "telescreens" watching everybody. He never imagined we would buy our own telescreens and carry them around in our pockets.

Even without technological advances, it is likely if not inevitable that every country in the world will have something similar to China's Social Credit System sooner or later.

Individualism is a lost cause.

It is simply that greater and greater social organization is inevitable. It's part of civilization.

My father once told me that my grandfather grumbled, "They stuck a number on me!" the day he was assigned an SSN. But in hindsight, that was an inevitable development. And not a regrettable one -- something like it should have been done in the 19th Century.

"You have zero privacy anyway. Get over it."

Neuralink. An indispensable step in the creation of the Borg Collective.

It was inevitable from the invention of the cell phone.
