If you had subcategories for poetry, what would you like to see, beyond the erotic and non-erotic divide?

:rose:

I'm looking around, and finding stuff like - love, lust, life, loss, friendship

or should it be more in line with stories? bdsm, gay?

You talkin' 'bout poetry here on Lit or poetry in general? On an erotic site, I guess you could divide them into kinks. In some kind of more high-brow intellectual setting, I guess the form and 'school' could be an option (sonnet, slam, scaldic, haiku, free, etc...but it's a little hazy which is which most of the time)

On the other hand, part of the charm in reading a poem is the element of surprise. Too much dividing into categories would just take away that fun.

I rather like the chosen categories. I can't think of any further classification I'd like to see.

I'd like to see a split between formal and informal forms and then by subject matter, or the other way round.

I think that non-erotic, or non-adult, limericks would be a very small group.

Haiku deserves a set of categories including classic (with definitions), and the various other forms.

When is a sonnet not a sonnet? How many triolets are posted on Lit?

Most of my 'poetry' would be limerick or doggerel.

Og

P.S. I think arguments about the definitions of formal poetry could cause meltdown in the poetry fora.

um, shit. I've been thinking about this myself. Erotic, Non-Erotic, Formal, and Verse Libre.
And allowing a description, as Lit does not- that could be useful, too.
And expect a lot of controversy!

For some of us that write really short schtuff, the description would be the entire poem. ;)

You could put half the poem in the description, the other half in the body.... Saves time! :D

Hmmm

Thanks, but now you poets have me scared :D

Might just stick to matter description, rather than poetry form :D Otherwise I might have strong public comments on when a haiku is not a haiku :D

Descriptions can be used if people want to. (no whip) I have found that people will post the first two lines etc in the description, so when you scroll over the title it comes up in a box.

(I better go see if they are working right now because the stories and poetry are undergoing a separation by the programmer :D )

Lit Triolet

Literotica is still a refuge for me
that changes little over the years,
slowly growing to suit he and she,
Literotica is still. A refuge for me,
itself, my part larger and more bitty,
yet retaining identity. Despite fears,
Literotica is still a refuge for me.
That changes little over the years.

Og

Having mentioned a triolet in an earlier post in this thread, I thought I'd attempt one.

Or, you could go with form (free verse, sonnet, etc.)
There are not enough good poems in a given day to discern. :)

Besides - half the point of delighting in a poem is getting form and content on your own. ;)
