Research question about birds and aviaries:

This may sound strange but I need to know about aviaries.

In my story, I am making a setting that is on a Scottish island (Isle Of Skye) and a man has made a bird aviary out of the ancient round tower there. The round tower is overgrown with moss and ivy and he has refurbished it as an aviary for his wife, who adores birds.

Anyone know anything about birds?
About Scotland?
About Scottish birds?

I am of course researching this in books and on the net, but I thought I would ask here as well.

What kinds of birds might be in this aviary and could survive the harsh climate?
What if there were heat lamps and such? Could exotic birds live there with the right temperature created for them?
