OOC: Okay, this thread is about a gorgeous woman (me) who gets lost in the snowy mountains and gets rescued by a hunk who lives in the mountains. I need a volunteer to play the man's part. The character can be wide open, but he needs to be moderately rich (cabin in the woods type thing) and sensitive/strong. Other than that, I'm open to possibilities!

IC: Well, that's it, I thought, no more oomph in this engine. I let the Jeep roll to a stop, trying to eke out a few more feet into the snowy trail. No other tracks on this road. That's not a good sign, I thought to myself. Nobody comes this way for months at a time. I sighed, thinking how stupid this had been....

Well, a girl's gotta have her fun and for the last few months, fun had been the last thing on my mind. Settling accounts in Colorado Springs was great, and the money wasn't bad, either. I had made a wager on this Jeep, though, I thought, kicking the dash in frustration. Oh, it'll go forever, the guy had said. Next time, buy from a dealer, idiot. At least his tow will have to come get you. I picked up my phone and pulled back my parka, eager to get this over with.

Beep. Hissssss. I lifted the phone from my ear and stared at it. No way. No cell phone reception? You gotta be kidding me. My mind raced as I considered my options. Stuck in a snowstorm in a crappy Jeep, surrounded by pine forest and Rockies and wolves. Shudder. Why couldn't I have just gone for a ride in a small plane or something, something safe?

It was cold and the temperature was dropping fast. I felt sorry for anyone foolish enough to get stranded this high in the Rockies, at this time of year. Oh the country was beautiful but deadly if you did not respect it.

I had been born here in these mountains back when Crested Butte was just a dying mining town, a hard rock mining town. Like most kids I saw no future in it and longed to escape, and that I did. Boy genius is what they called. Hell I just tried something and it worked. Worked to well, took over my life cost me my wife and kids in a plane crash, and nearly took my life.

Cashed out and started to rebuild my body and spirit, then I came home to the mountains and the cabin I now owned, high up in the mountain. Well a little more then a cabin.

At 39 I guess I was not bad looken, 5’ 11”, 170lbs lean but rock solid, and just a touch of sliver in my ginger hair. My hazel eyes either woed the gals still, or scared the guys, which ever was need.

Whoa Gus, Whoa Bell my team of mules came to a stop.

”What the Hell was a jeep doing up here in this weather with a blue norther closing in.”

“ Any one about?”

And there she was standing there looken like and angel.

“Can I help you Miss?”

Rescue Me...

No way, my brain said. Look at that. You get out of your car after being stranded, and a man like this appears? I oughta get stranded more often.

"Hi!" I said with my most professional smile. I waved and waded through the knee-deep snow. "I kinda got stuck!" Nervous giggle. What was wrong with me? I just closed on a six-hundred-thousand dollar home at this office, and didn't blink. Granted, the couple who bought it looked like twin prunes, and they had expressios to match.
It's just the situation of being stranded, I decided. His horses were a nice touch. Was he out of society on purpose, or was that the way to get aorund out here? I didn't know a thing about horses, but they looked big and strong. Anything's better than an engine that won't start, I suppose.

I held out my hand. "Rebecca. Nice to meet you! And you are?"

Hi!" ……..She waved and waded through the knee-deep snow.

“I kinda got stuck!" and there was nervous giggle that escaped her chattering teeth.

She held out her hand. "Rebecca. Nice to meet you! And you are?"

Taking her small hand in mine “Tim Wolf, kind of nippy out tonight.”……..”Need a lift?”

There was a light teasing quality to my voice. Not waiting for the obvious answer I scooped Rebecca up and put her up on the box seat of the sleigh. And wrapped her in a thick buffalo blanket.

“I don’t think that anyone else will be coming along until spring” a warm genuine smile creased my face.

“Get up Gus, haw Belle” the Mule team took off smoothly and we where off deeper into the mountains.

We made small talk and I assured Rebecca I was not some kind of a nut but just headed for the nearest shelter. The going was slow and the wind was rising as the snow pick up in intensity, but Gus and bell pulled steadily on. It took about an hour to reach “My Cabin “, a five bedroom cabin with an attached barn. We say the post lantern light as we cleared the rise.

“Wont be long now Rebecca.”

Rebecca

Whoa, I thought. He just picked me up like I was nothing! I admired the strength, but he seemed a little rough around the edges. Oh well. Under the circumstances, I wasn't going to be choosy about my rescuer's manners. Although he could have asked first.

Sigh. I settled myself into the thick blanket he gave me. Warm. I shifted, getting comfortable. When I glanced to the side, I noticed him looking at me. Probably curious, I mused. Doesn't see people that often. I turned and grinned at him.

"I don't think that anyone else will be coming along until spring," he said, and his face lit up with a great smile. I smiled back.

"So, is it every day that you rescue people?" I laughed lightly, to show I was teasing. He chuckled and shook his head. I kept looking at him as his eyes turned toward the road, his large hands holding the reins. He had great control over his animals, I noticed. Not a rough man to his horses. They trusted him. Good sign. At least I'm not likely to get raped.

I turned toward the road, where a rise was just peaking. A lantern on a post swung in the light breeze as we cleared the rise.

"Won't be long now, Rebecca," he said. I shifted and gave a groan of approval. "Good! These seats are kinda rough. Not that I mind, but it'll be nice to be warmer inside! I like the surroundings, this must keep you very comfortable." He nodded.

We stopped and he helped me down. His hands are so strong, I thought, smiling inside. If only the girls at the office knew about this! Rescued by a woodsman hunk. I giggled, and he looked at me quizzically. I smiled and squeezed his hand.

"Thank you so much! I really appreciate it. Do you have a phone?"

Rebecca giggled and that caught my attention God she out here stranded in the mountains and now she is giggling. I tried to work it out in my mind but just couldn't get a handle on it. I guess it showed on my face. It had been a long time scene I been around a pretty woman.

"Thank you so much! I really appreciate it. Do you have a phone?" she cooed.

“No afraid not, but I do have a two way radio. Been on the fritz’s lately in storms like this. Could you give me a hand with the mules and then we can go in.”

I unhooked the team and led them into the barn, where I lit and old lantern returning it to its peg, and handed Rebecca Gus and Belle’s lead line.

“Don’t worry they wont bite.” I teased her as that big boyish grin once again spread across my face.

In no time at all the Mule’s harness was hung, they where in their stalls, feed and watered.

I led Rebecca through the barn and into the cabin, the soft glow of the lantern lighting our way. I hit the switch by the kitchen door and there was the low throaty hum of a diesel engine as the generator came to life.

“Lights up”

The soft glow a track lighting bathed the area in light. The cabin was furnished with “Mission” style furniture. Not reproductions but the genuine article. There where sketches by “Roudian” on the walls as well as one or two original works of “Dahlia.” Can I get you something to drink…. Rebecca isn’t it”
