I just published my first story here at Literotica, and am a bit troubled by the quality/quantity of my response.

The story was posted on April 2nd, and by now has 16,000+ views but only 21 votes.

It was quite longish: 15k words, and had rather more plot than porn in the mix.

Am I to assume that 16 thousand people tried to read it, but only 21 completed the task, or that 16, 000 people did read it, but only one in 750 thought it worth rating?

I had the ‘Public Comment’ turned on when I submitted the story.

Very early, I got one single-word, positive, anonymous comment, then a second comment complaining that it did not belong in ‘Illustrated’, followed by a third comment knocking (if I read it correctly) the person making the second comment.

Since I could, I erased both comments. Half an hour later, two more comments were back, seemingly from the same people. (Both anonymous, one from Germany, one from USA) These seemingly were taking up the cudgels from their earlier exchange, or perhaps about my erasing their comments. At the least, the comments had nothing to do with my story.

After going through this twice more, I turned off the ‘Public Comments’.

Is this type of occurrence normal, or did I win some sort of evolutionary booby prize?

Perhaps I should mosey back to ASSTR.

Really? how do you erase the comments, cos I just got trolled today. I was getting ok comments and someone wrote a nasty one in there. If they don't like it... why not just leave it alone?

21 comments from 16,000 views, .131%, is fairly normal. The average is probably slight higher but not much. Probably one reason it might be lower is the length. People click on it, scroll down and see that it is a long story, and leave. That counts as a view, even if the reader didn't read anything but the name.

Rydia, you delete a comment by going to it from your index page and clicking on the order to delete it.

Is that the new, New Math?

21 out of 160 = 0.13125
21 0ut of 16,000 = 0.0013125

In any case, it now is (at this posting) 23 out of 19,755 which = 0.0011646 or 0.12%

Feedback email = nil.

And this is during the first week!

From ASSTR I average eight emails per thousand.
Much more during the first week, less as the story sinks into the archive.
And they do not have any special voting features.

If that is the case, I will go back to ASSTR, where the readers don't find reading so challenging.

Are we talking about the same ASSTR, where young girls (below 18 or even 16) get fucked by older men and are happy about it? I would imagine that those stories have less plot than the ones on here. But, if you want to leave, be well. :)

Well, ouch.

You are a new author to Lit. With your previous story history on other sites you must know that it does take time to build a significant reader base.

Your story is well-written but a historical piece of this type will not appeal to everyone. I do question the choice of Illustrated Category; perhaps Fantasy could be better, as some readers may be disappointed to find just a title and end page picture instead of sexual illustrations throughout.

Five pages does take a bit more time to peruse. An average reader wishing a simple stroke story may find it not to their taste.

Having said all of that I hope you will hop over to the Author's Hangout. There are incredible writers on this site and many of them post exclusively in that forum.

In the AH we discuss sex, politics, relationships, sex, humor, education, sex, male and female preferences, the world, religion, sex, and art, to name a few.

Oh, and once in awhile we discuss writing techniques.

Welcome to Lit. :rose:
