Well, Trump and his ball-garglers across the country won't be able to sleaze their way into House wins in 2024. State supreme courts and even the US Supreme Court are forcing red states to redraw their districting maps due to illegal and/or unconstitutional gerrymandering along racial lines. The Supreme Court has long been wary of intervening in purely political gerrymandering, but has been forced to do so in cases of blatant racism, and has thus far done the right thing. If the Court hadn't put these cases on the back burner until after the 2022 midterms, Dems likely would now control the House. Well, better late than never, I guess. Let's see how MAGA does without being able to cheat via ACTUAL election fraud. This video with the preeminent voting rights lawyer and activist in the country explains each state's cases succinctly and exquisitely. Maybe even Republicans can understand it. Vote Blue in '24!

Both parties do it. Deep blue Minnesota has some of the most extreme gerrymandering with noncontiguous districts. A few states have "independent" redistricting commissions, but they're new, so how they become part of the gerrymandering process is a work in progress. But this constant battle for inches and control of redistricting is a government expense that will be cut back.

Gerrymandering is as old as the Republic itself, going back to 1812 and has very little to do with 'racism.' It's all about manipulation of district lines along political party lines. The argument that it's racial is relatively new.

I don't argue that gerrymandering is 'fair.' By it's very nature it isn't. But dragging the courts into what is essentially a political dispute is NOT a solution. That supposed solution merely drags the courts deeper into the political realm and that is a place we shouldn't want the courts to be.
