Trump ridiculed for RNC speakers: ‘Nobody wants to be associated with this historic disaster’

Word began to leak out on Saturday as to the speakers at next week’s Republican National Committee Convention.

The event will be largely virtual, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and is set to be held against a backdrop of two hurricanes hitting Louisiana.

Fox News posted a graphic on Saturday identifying a dozen planned speakers. Included are President Donald Trump, Vice President Mike Pence, first lady Melania Trump, senior White House advisor Ivanka Trump, her brothers Donald Trump, Jr. and Eric Trump from her father’s first marriage and half-sister Tiffany Trump from her father’s second marriage.

Also included are House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA), Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), Gov. Kristi Noem (R-SD) and Ambassador Nikki Haley.

Annie Karni, White House correspondent for The New York Times reported that White House officials would also be taking the stage. White House social media director Dan Scavino, trade advisor Larry Kudlow and senior advisor Kellyanne Conway will speak.

Trump defense attorney Rudy Giuliani will also reportedly speak.

The Republican National Committee Convention will face the logistical hurdles of occurring remotely and the split-screen optics of two hurricanes currently expected to hit the Gulf Coast, but the GOP is still expected to make their case against former Vice President Joe Biden and his running mate, Sen. One problem Republicans will face is accusations of hypocrisy.

The ad contrasts Eric Trump’s arguments with his father’s records on the First Amendment, the QAnon conspiracy theory, the economic catastrophe, corruption, greed, and hypocrisy.

Police and protesters clash again in Charlotte ahead of Republican National Convention

What appeared to be a peaceful night of protests against the Republican National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina turned unruly late Sunday, reports the CBS affiliate there, WBTV. It was the third straight night of demonstrations against the GOP gathering, which officially kicks off Monday.

Friday and Saturday night protests were more hectic. Police made five arrests Saturday.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police tweeted that demonstrators were "beginning to move barricades, construction cones and trash cans to block roads and impede traffic" as they marched through the Uptown area of the city.

CNN anchor Jake Tapper on Monday called out the Trump administration for a video played during the Republican National Committee Convention that attempted to make the president look like a hero for his response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“You know, I can’t help but think that so much of this convention so far is great for Donald Trump’s base,” Tapper noted. “And yet with a couple of exceptions is not even remotely reaching out to any voters in the middle. We’ve heard a lot of grievance really this evening.”

“One other thing that strikes me,” he said, addressing CNN’s Abby Phillip, “is that we were told that the organizers knew that they had to take on the coronavirus pandemic. And what they’ve done is they had a doctor talk about how President Trump sped up and cut through the red tape to get the approval for the therapeutic Remdesivir, we heard from a woman who talked about how President Trump helped improve telehealth. Those are two excellent points from those individuals.”

“But then also there was this video that is just complete revisionism when it came to President Trump’s empirically mishandling of the pandemic early on when he dismissed the threat of the virus, and we still in this nation do not have control of the virus like other western wealthy countries do. We have 4% of the world’s population and more than 20%, Abby, of the world’s COVID deaths.”

Building the suburbs is one of the worst mistakes of US history. Unfucking that scale of fuckup is one of the great challenges of this century, along with the sunk costs of coastal infrastructure. People on Biden's and Trump's staff have probably read some memos, but gas is too cheap now to make it a campaign issue. It might get some notice in 2024.

The 'burbs can be fixed it's just that no one wants to do the work because it'll raise taxes on already wealthy white people and you know how much that irks them if some poor kid gets sent to their lily white school. They tried this with busing back in the 1970s and Boston went insane.
