The rightwing US Administration has just included a socialist slant in its new energy bill, HR6, just passed in the House.

The effect of the change means that taxpayers fund all the losses for unprofitable or unexploitable oil leases but to their credit, the Investors get to keep the proceeds on all the profitable ones. Doh!, the taxpayers get shafted again for Big Oil.

Would it be snipey to suggest that 3 senior cabinet members with strong oil ties may have had some influence here in eliminating risk from oil exploration. Aint capitalist risk ventures great when the Treasury will pick up the tab for bad choices.

The best part is that the prices at the pump keep going up for better profits.

I think someone is stacking the deck.

Dude: Move to LA.

Sweet: Those prices are due to formulations and lack of refining capacity...

What a fucking idiot. Still don't have a clue as to how our government works do you?

Did it ever occur to your ignorant ass that the government has ALREADY collected the monies for those leases?

The provision in the energy bill stipulates that if a permit denial or some other government action prevents a lease from being explored or developed, the leasing company can request the Interior secretary to authorize the lease for repurchase.

Then, the federal government must pay to the leasing company the original cost of the lease, along with other expenses including environmental and seismic studies and drilling costs.

It pays to read the entire article before you entirely show your ass woody.

You damn sure should be able to if the government makes one of your numbers illegal.

Still don't get it, do you?

You know the US government fleece OPEC for all they can anyway.

Do you remember the Carter administration?

It is a symbiotic relationship.

They learned via the embargo that their economies depended upon ours...

I'm sorry, you pays your money and takes your chances. That is the Capitalist sytem you have.

The Federal Government is not a backstop for for deals that turn sour further down the track outside their control. The lessees should be seeking redress at State level if they have a valid claim.

Socialism would be taking money from big oil companies and redistributing it to smaller companies...

;) ;)

1. You're still abysmally ignorant of how our government works.

2. You're still incapable of reading the article.

3. You're still a fucking idiot.

Besides Woody, those companies currently pay a 23 to 30 percent imbedded tax...

And they pass it on to the CONSUMER.

It is a total myth that the corporations cover ANY tax loss.

We do.

Care to show me some stats that show oil large companies paying tax at that level,,, I dont think so.

You cant count State taxes that are built into the selling price of fuel because they are merely tax collectors at that point even though they collect a margin on it as well.

I agree ultimately the consumer can end up paying for bad corporate deals when inadequare competition allows excessive margins.

Well, you just have to look at developments to see how it works.

Money rules, it elects the right people and they make the right rules to open the way to make more money easier and the public treasury is the annual prize to be shared around by the winners. Right?

The answer to all of the lobbyist tax magic is here . A Fair Tax for everyone and a lot of this monkey business will go away.

Fairtax.org has all the research (Harvard, Yale, that sort of thing) that break down and show that all corporations pay an imbedded tax and cost of IRS compliance that runs to 23 to 30 percent of all costs inflating everything, including the price of gas, by said amount since corporate taxation is a myth used by Liberals in their soak the rich and rally against the big guys rhetoric. The little guy pays it all at the pump...

In 2004 Exxon collected and passed through $84 billion in taxes on gross revenues of $298 billion.

Are we having fun yet?

Ishmael

Plus the imbedded costs they collected from us to cover the cost of compliance...

A billion here, a billion there, pretty soon you start talking about REAL money!

The imbedded costs of the far-left environmental wacko movement, the just say no to progress gang.

Do they want us to end up like India or Haiti?

A land with people living so simply that they simply consume all resources?

Unfortunately there isn't a line item for tax compliance in their financials. That really should be required reporting.
