I think it's about time to do away with the remnants of overreaction from 9/11. The laws that left open ended interpretation of the word "terror" and overreach of the Executive Branch.

Let's return authorization to the Legislative Branch and let go of the revenge mindset of war.

Agreed. Those are two examples of what happens when Congress "comes together" and argue strongly for the virtue of a divided government.

I'm sure it's complicated to unpack the complexity they baked into the PA over the years.

I would be happy if Biden made it his legacy to close the chapter of 9/11. Close gitmo, repeal both crap laws and get out of Afghanistan.

Maybe outlaw the phrase "war on terror" while he's at it

is he able to do that or does it have to pass through congress or senate or courts? i don't know how that works

The patriot act ain't going anywhere...the power to do whatever they want to whoever they want by simply labeling them a terrorist??

They're not giving that power up....LOL

.
Yeah, this would be the perfect time to suspend the Patriot Act.

Can you imagine if President Biden and Democrats pushed to have the PA repealed in the afterglow of 1/6 and the fall of Afghanistan to the Taliban.??? "Republican" Deplorables would crucify him, even though they secretly want to conduct their own domestic terror operations unimpeded.

At this moment in time, the only way I would agree is if the "Republicans" take the lead and invest their political capital to push the issue. Even then I would question the timing of such action, considering recent events and mutating terror threats.

President Biden should continue to project soft power, (domestically and internationally), via economic and humanitarian efforts, while keeping the Patriot Act and measured law enforcement and military responses in his back pocket.

We aren't in a post 9/11 world just yet, much less a post 1/6 world.

The Authoritarian mind at work.... this is why the PA is going nowhere.

Too good of a weapon to use against the "other'. :)

Congress would have to do it. But of he led the party that way, they'd have to follow

I'm inclined to take some bits apart and leave others. Scrap the FISA court for one, but I'm OK with requiring proof of ID to open bank accounts.

Set Real ID as an option, but do not require it for all that may never need it.
