I'm ashamed to be from Georgia today. Rep. Cynthia McKinney has sent a letter apologizing for Mayor Guliani's refusal of the $10 million dollars and offered to help the Sheik to fins "worthy" charities that will benefit from his money.

This is the story and the text of her letter.

If you would like to respond to the Representative from Georgia's 4th district, her Congressional office is (202) 225-1605.

It's acts like these that deserve full retribution. Ive always been amazed someone like Cynthia Mckinney could get elected in the first place.

I agree with you morninggirl...pray people outside our state don't assume the rest of us are as idiotic as she is.....God Save the South!

Resolve is an important healer. Acceptance of the money would undoubatbly been seen as an acceptance of the Saudi's suggestion that America was partly to blame for the attack, as if anything could have warranted such an act.

But...

I see no point in villifying the woman. Obviously her concern is for the victims, and her views on Israel can be assessed by the voters in her state.

If she was planning to steer the money to victims of the attacks, I would agree. But she's NOT. Her entire letter is divisive and the very worst of parisan politics.

We still don't know what the new Congressional districts will be in Georgia, but if I end up in hers (a good possibility) I'll be first in line to vote against her.

I saw the story on our local news this morning...and her concern was not for the victims in New York...she suggested he give her the money and she would distribute it to the poor and underprivledged in HER district...her comments are in my opinion anti-semetic (Sp?) and as callous as the original sheik. Oh and trust me her views will be assessed by the voters of Ga.

"Go Bo -

- And take Lester with you."

Sorry, but your voters aren't famed for their perspicacity.

I've e-mailed her and my Congressman. I have the phone numbers in my bag to take to school and call tomorrow. Maybe if the rest of the Georgia delegation hears enough about it, they'll be able to muzzle her.

What a greedy unpatrotic bitch

:p

She is despicable

She is a total embarrassment The sad truth is that her district is predominately black, and her constituents will keep her in office - esoecially if the GA Legislature succeeds in its latest attempt at gerrymandering. It's deja vu all over again in the South. 40 years ago many corrupt politicians were elected only because they were white. Today, in predominately black districts, corrupt politicians are elected because they are black.

Let her have the money. Call it a down payment on reparations that she is so vocal about.

"The only thing unusual about a discussion of reparations or payment of damages in the American context is the outcry against reparations or damages being paid to black people. The very outcry itself, given US history, is a sad indicator of how far away this country really is from the One America that we all want to see and live in."

Anti Semitic?

I suppose any criticism at all of Israel's actions during the past 53 years is to be considered anti semitism on a Nazi scale.

Nothing the US has done in the past warrants the actions perpetrated upon us Sept 11. But to act like we have been nothing but saints in that region is massive self delusion. Usually when someone slaps your face you either have an idea as to why or you ask "What was that for" and maybe after kicking the shit out of the slapper you listen. As Americans we do not listen very well, especially when it may be a bit critical of us.

If we fail to pay attention then no amount of military action will prevent what happened from happening again. We (or rather, our children) will just have to deal with it again in the future.

In my opinion Giuliani should have respectfully asked the Sheik to use the money to help the Afghani refugees. It is more than they have done in the past for their own people. (Arab)

The US reminds me of the annoying, meddling rich aunt that pisses everybody off at times and has no understanding of why everyone talks behind her back. For the most part we mean well.

Why is trying to understand why they are so angry somehow unpatriotic?

Maybe we should just nuke the whole region...who would care afterwards...or dare to?

We have been bloody before...it washes off in time...

In any case..her letter was clueless and tacky.

Hey stop derailing on "The Cutest little Communist" Cynthia McKinney.

You people are being unmerciful to such a fine upstanding pillar of society who we should all look to as a fine rolemodel.

Just because she sits in the empty house for 5 hours prior to a media meeting with the president so she can have an aisle seat so she can get camera time when the President walks down the aisle is no reason to pick on her.

Lighten up shes one of the good guys, shes a democrat our only hope for the future. Stand up and be proud of her America, rally around and support her cause.

don't let the fact that it's blood money cloud your vision of the larger pictures

Todd,

If I thought you believed any of that, I'd be reaching out to knock some sense into you or beat you until you can't grow anymore. I don't know which would be most beneficial.
